Today I posted this on MySpace as a bulliten after seeing the message about how we should all boycott Exxon/Mobil for a day and get 10 friends, who'll get 10 friends, who'll get 10 friends, etc, until we're 300 million strong, to do it.
Please read this, add another item to the list, and repost.
Let's all be clear about the fact that lower gas prices is not a goal that changes anything except how much money we privileged Americans get to keep in our pockets. I understand that for many people, including me, it poses a bit of a hardship and I am not excusing the huge profit of oil companies but consumer protest in the name of cheaper prices is a shallow goal.
I can think of many things we should be mobilizing to protest that warrant our attention more than just gas prices.
1. The illegal war in Iraq.
2. The decay of the welfare safety net that workers fought and died for in generations past.
3. The genocide in Sudan.
4. The fact that wages have actually fallen since the 1970's when adjusted for inflation.
5. Walmart!
