I should be asleep right now, but I got carried away with a study session, and in ten minutes or so Tree will be getting up, so I may as well check in briefly.
Baby nephew is doing fine; the even newer baby great-niece is also doing well, from all I've heard. Class has turned into one of those not-quite-nightmares where you're convinced you know nothing about the subject and can't address it properly, right up till you get the tests back and realize that you have a ninety-five average, and then realize that you're better at explaining it than the teacher, and then realize that that's because nobody else understands it either. Probably including the people who wrote the textbook.
The experiment with the peas did not succeed terribly well. Next year (if we're still in the area) we'll try spring instead of fall, which should help, and move it to a sheltered area by the garage; the place we tried the peas with will either be carrots or carrots and tomatoes, and a little area a little further down we'll hunt the mint out of (it's already halfway done) and try with beans. The morning-glories seem to have retreated from the side garden altogether, which means next year will be much, much easier to take care of.
Also next year we'll need to reseed and re-establish a good half of the front lawn, but we have plans in place for that; part of the front garden is also going to need a fair amount of care, but the house-painting and the driveway and the front steps have all been redone, so it should be safe.
Among other things, we have discovered a secret garden: something we thought was an ivied-over wall next to the garage turned out to be an ivied-over gate instead, and there's a little narrow fenced-off place between the garage wall and the brick wall that edges off our neighbors' property. It begs for something pretty to be done with it.
In non-garden matters, Tree has been coming with me to the cooks' guild meetings, ostensibly to keep me from volunteering too much. Somehow, however, I was not the one who volunteered us for kitchen help for Twelfth Night. Somebody I know is a sucker! This does, however, mean that I will have to acquire cloth and learn how to deal with patterns shortly - since both of us will need outfits, and since I still don't know how to use a sewing machine. This does not bode well for our dignity.
Tree is now up and off to work; that means I'm off to bed. Finally. Tomorrow with any luck we get to see our baby nephew again, and maybe see if I'm as good at soothing him to sleep as Tree is.
