Here's a thought...

...one that I've had several times after watching "The Satan Pit", and it has reared it's head again after reading a lovely story over at Teaspoon...

The question (it's in there somewhere) is this:

The Doctor told Zach that he couldn't save the Ood because there was time for only one trip, and he used it to rescue Ida. How could he be so sure that Rose wasn't waiting for him in the sanctuary base? I know, I know... the whole "I believe in her" thing with the Beast but this is jeopardy-friendly Rose we're talking about. Yeah, Zach did the right thing by drugging her and getting her on board the spaceship - and a good thing, too, because it was there that the Doctor's faith was proven when she shot out the (can't really call it a windscreen because, well, no wind in space. But I'm going to call it that anyway, just because that's what it looked like.) windscreen and sent the Satan-ish Toby to his eternal reward.

Where his faith (in my opinion) should have been called into question was in her being on the bloody rocket to begin with. Because the Rose who opened the heart of the TARDIS for the return trip to Satellite Five would have (without the convenient plot device) found some way not to be on that ship, and the Doctor should have, at least, considered the possibility. Which means that Ida would have most likely snoozed her way into the black hole because there's no way in hell he would have chosen stopping in the cavern over popping into the base for a quick look-see...

Just sayin'...

"the satan pit", tenth doctor, doctor who, rose
