Six Degrees of Don McKellar

Apr 13, 2008 15:14

Basically, he's one the one of the most prolific and respected film artists in Canada.  As a comedic actor, he's in everything and when he's not doing that, he writes and directs.  In barely a single degree, you can connect him to the Kids in the Hall, Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg - pretty much everything even a rather well-informed American can possibly know about Canadian film and TV.

Who knew he was born to have a handle-bar mustache, the sexy beast.

Can you tell I'm in love (AND procrastinating)?  But, since I couldn't care less about his personal life, it's not a star crush, which for some reason makes me feel more justified.  It seems Canadian film is a lot like British film, in that it tends to feature a much greater number of normal (human) looking actors.  And it's reasonable to assume that with the black hole-like pull of Hollywood, the really gorgeous ones just move to LA.  Don McKellar is one of those people.  There's something much more attractive about someone who is creative and regular looking.  He looks the least attractive in Twitch City (TV skills challenge clip), the TV show he created, wrote, directed and starred in because he does a lot of unflattering close-ups and he's obviously not wearing much make-up.  And that accent?  Toronto sounds like a cool place and infinitely more culturally diverse than many US cities in that category. [And as noted in 'Exotica,' this 110 pound man with paper-white skin has a chest like a gorilla (i.e. incredibly hairy). ]
