Victoria Bushfires

Feb 09, 2009 09:45

The bushfires have claimed more victims, with 108 deaths as of 6am Monday, and predictions of more bodies to be found. Entire townships have been razed. This is worse than Ash Wednesday in 1983.  And to think that at least one of the fires was deliberately lit on a 47C (approx 115F) day. My sister evacuated her three kids across to my mums' when the smoke got too thick around her area in Eaglehawk. As it is, I can smell smoke down here in Melbourne, but that is such a minor inconvenience compared to what others are going through. My heart hurts for all those who have lost loved ones.

If anyone can help out, the Australian Red Cross has set up an appeal for donations here:
