I watch the most random documentaries, okay

I’m watching a documentary series about smells and -

I think it’s quite interesting how particular women are expected to not only not smell, but to add artificial smells to our bodies considering how much information we (subconsciously?) are getting from each other natural smells. Even - particular, actually - when it comes to our smells, women are expected to be a blank canvas we can “add” things to - a work of art, some say, or maybe a construction. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone more into the politics of smelling and cleanliness can connect this with the way we (in the West?) understand a clean home and the implicit messages of having that - control, success, etc. My body is a temple, some women like to say, and while to them it’s meant to be a positive message, it reminds me of the similarities between how we construct/control the female body and how we construct/control buildings

subject: feminism, my stuff: thoughts
