It's a criticism about what would happen in the future, giving the copyright laws are getting too powerful lately. Richard Stallman is an advocate of free software, the creator of GPL license (the license GNU/linux has, i.e. the "copyleft", you are free to copy and modify the open code as long as you don't limit others to do the same). That's why I related it with the MTV vs. Google issue, since I am worried with laws trying to limit the freedom of sharing files in the internet. Not to mention the idea of my IP being watched doesn't appeal to me either. Read the link behind the story, there Richard Stallman explains how many of the absurd ideas in his stories were ideas actually considered by companies like Microsoft to limit user freedom with his PC (Microsoft proposed selling PCs with a password, so only MS and authorized companies could install software on it).
