Mess Hall, people watching, (open!!)

Aug 31, 2009 04:04

Bored again, Nova sat in the mess hall pushing her food around her plate.

She was mostly people watching, something she'd started to pick up in Risa and continued on the ship. She was shocked to realize just how many people there were on this ship, and just how many she couldn't even remember ever seeing their faces before. Her sister used to do ( Read more... )

"Hey, Nova." Tina Chapel stood in front of her, holding a meal tray. "Can I join you?"

She sat down and started tucking in to her own mashed potatoes. Once she had a few mouthfuls in her, she sat back with a sigh.

"Ugh, I'm starving. But I know if I don't slow myself down a bit I'm just going to feel ill after." She grinned. "Help me out, Nova. If I'm talking I can't eat so fast. What's new?"

Smiling she ate a bit of her own food, she'd barely touched it and she had started out hungry.

"Just think of real food instead, it helps, although it's a solution that might linger...I haven't been able to eat much since we've been back." she laughed and gestured with her fork.

"You probably have more in the department of news than I do, I've been watching The Little Mermaid a lot..." thinking not everyone had her love of 21st century childrens films she explained. "er..it's an old vid, back when they put things like that on these reels of tape in black boxes. Although I don't have one, I'd love the original format, I bet it'd be in a museum."

"What's new in the sickbay? How's Meira? I'm sure you see her more than I do now."

"I haven't seen Spot in a while, actually. I guess we must be working opposite shifts. And I've been spending my time out of sickbay holed up in my room with a bunch of papers to read, mostly."

She took another over-large bite of her food, holding up her finger while she chewed to indicate that she had something else she wanted to say.

"Actually, I've been thinking about how I should be doing more recreational activities in my down time, and probably socializing, too. Do you have any ideas?"

"I know what you mean, like I said...The Little Mermaid. Our schedule's are all mixed up, we barely see each other. I met her for her coffee break last wee-oh..." She blushed. "Probably shouldn't have said that..."

"Socializing is nice. In theory. I don't quite remember when I became a hermit, I wasn't always like this...you remember the Academy..." She sent a smirk at Tina, knowing some stories had to have gotten around.

Tina grinned. "It was a lot easier to get out when we were on the ground, huh? But there have to be some things we can do on the ship for fun." She paused. "Besides sex."

More blushing... she cleared her throat. "Yeah, it was easier on the ground. Less clothes and more alcohol. Hmmm...what can we do to bring that here? Without sex?" she laughed and tried to think of something they could do.

"And without getting in trouble for being intoxicated while on duty." Tina pursed her lips, deep in thought. "I don't know, maybe we should have a club. Planned activities. Like a games night, or something?"

She raised an eyebrow. "That's kind of perfect actually! A chance for everyone to mingle and get to know each other, and relax, and god knows this ship needs more means of relaxation sometimes."

Laughing she lit up, remembering something. "My grandmother actually had an old collection of board games, she wouldn't let us touch them, too fragile, but she did replicate duplicates. I cant remember them all, but I can send her a message and ask. I need to write her anyway..." her eyebrows pulled down a bit at the thought, she still hadn't talked to anyone back home about her father's death.

Tina reached out and touched Nova's hand, offering her a simple gesture of support. "If you feel up to writing to your grandmother, I think that would be a great idea." She definitely wasn't just talking about the board games.

She squeezed Tina's hand back, welcoming the comfort, but didn't say anything about her father. "That will work, I'll see if I can get her to send me the replication files."

Tina smiled. "Great. Should be fun. Do you want to invite people, or should we post a general announcement, or what? I guess we'd need a place with at least one good-sized table... Maybe we can reserve a rec room?"

"I'll message her, and send out one to everyone too. And yeah, the rec room seems like the place, unless we want to do it here" She gestured around the mess hall. "I guess the number of people who are interested..."

"Good point. I guess we can wait to make arrangements for space once we have an idea of how popular it'll be."

Chapel grinned, and scarfed down some more of her meal.

"Look at us, being all pro-active about our social lives!"

Smiling brightly "Yay for pro-active! I'll send the message. Hopefully we'll have a lot of people sign up."

"Excellent. I'm looking forward to it."

Tina smiled again, then quickly finished clearing her plate.

"Okay, back to the grindstone for me. I'll talk to you later, Nova."
