Joseph F. Miklojcik III

I find in my notes this morning a message that jfm3 (Joseph F. Miklojcik III) passed away suddenly last night.

This guy was one of the best people I know. Knew. I can't even get my tenses right. This is just awful and upsetting.

Joe taught me that breathing is an important and meditative act, being right isn't nearly as important as being together, and that playing a drum matters. These truths are so simple that they may seem naively overstated, but they are elusive; hard to maintain in your heart in a crowded, noisy, distracting world.

I have a feeling Joe taught everybody something, and particularly that which they most needed to know.

Joe made it all seem so effortless and natural. He also was incredibly smart; really, really smart. He convinced me to take music seriously - and then again not at all - at the same time.

I drew him into this image here as the background drummer for this old Jadeclaw illustration. His wife features more prominently as the dancer in foreground. Both wonderful people.

I had not been in touch with them for many years now, and I regret not getting to know him better.
