So I've only just finished part one but I thought I needed to comment to say THIS IS THE STORY OF MY HEART. As a former band geek, I love your casting and your attention to detail. Lauren would SO be quads (a former drumline geek, no less) and Mike being guard and oh my GOD I never knew how much I wanted a marching band AU until I found one, so lkadjflkalfj yay!

It is the story of my heart, too, so I am really happy to see you say that! As I'm writing it, I keep getting all nostalgic for marching band. I marched through high school and undergrad and loved it.

I never knew how much I wanted a marching band AU until I found one, so lkadjflkalfj yay!

I said the same thing when sotto_voice and I started talking about it. The more I thought about it, the more I needed it, but I couldn't find anything other than small pieces of stories that dealt with marching band au. I would still love to read some stories, but I am also enjoying the hell out of writing it.

Thank you for your enthusiasm! Like I've already said, it absolutely made my day.

Still reading; sotto_voice recc'd this at the kurt_blaine weekly thread and oh my god. Former drum major here and ♥ ♥ ♥.

I can't decide if I want to read this all at once or stretch it out. I AM THAT EXCITED.

Thank you for letting me know she recced it there; I hadn't seen it and now I'm all giddy. I'm former guard and woodwinds myself, and marching band stories are the stories of my heart.

If it helps your decision, this is but one story of many to come. I'm finishing the second story (which is Kurt and Blaine focused) now and hope to have it posted within the next week).

Thank you so much for this comment. It really made me grin. I hope you continue to enjoy the story.

Fuck it; I have the restraint of an ACTUAL teenager, and I had finished the story by the time I got your comment. :-P ( ... )

Ha! I'm not terribly full of restraint myself, especially when it comes to reading fic (or not staying up until the wee hours of the morning to write fic), so I empathize and am highly amused.

My brother was on drumline, and the guard and the drumline at my school really did team up a lot, and I marched winter drumline, so I have this intense fondness for it, even beyond my fondness of marching band as a whole. Even when I was in the middle of it, I was particularly intrigued by the intersectional dynamics, and exploring them now, with some distance, is so much fun.

that there is not a single fucking reference to Lauren's size in this entire storyWORD. I love Lauren SO MUCH, but the show pisses me off with how they handle her size (both when it was played off as a joke and now when she's getting an actual storyline and yet they don't know how to write a fat character without resorting to all the fat jokes ( ... )

Oh, how perfect is this. I don't know how you managed to get everyone in the right sections. Lauren is exactly the take no shit kind of girl that could put up with being drumline and Puck is so a percussion kind of guy. I can't even explain why Sam is a sax player, but you are so right.

Thank you so much! Putting them into their sections was an absolute blast; I knew from the beginning that Lauren and Puck would be on drumline, both because it fits them and because it worked for what I wanted to write, and that Mike and Tina would be on color guard together, but finding perfect sections for everyone else was a fantastic exercise in creativity and characterization. Plus I made sotto_voice brainstorm with me, which is always fun.

Ooh... I love this so much! I want to hug you for the Quinn, Tina, Mercedes and Lauren friendship. I'm way too obsessed with them being the fantastic four with Kurt making them even better. Off to read more. *g*

The whole Quinn, Tina, Mercedes, Lauren, and Kurt friendship is something I desperately, desperately want. I know the show won't give it to me (at least not regularly, and likely not all at once), but I want it. In the long run, Rachel will be a part of it too, because though her personality is seriously abrasive sometimes, I love stories where she actually has friends.

Lauren and Lauren/Puck is why I watch Glee. I gave it up back in season one, because it infuriated me so much, but sotto_voice pulled me back in with how awesome Lauren is, so I started watching again with "Silly Love Songs" and oh, fell in love. I've since started writing a lot of fic from Lauren's point of view, because she is AMAZING and I adore her.

Thank you!
