I like it! I really enjoy that they're trying to make their way in a 'verse that has no room for them. The tone is so grim, but also so matter-of-fact, like Zoe is incapable of feeling the world around her.

And I love this line (I can just imagine it so perfectly): He’s packing away guns, so many she’s not sure where he’s putting them all.

The cat appears in the end to be inconsequential, or perhaps it's the last of Zoe's logic fleeing. Either way, very good!
