So "art". I'm trying to make more of it. Part of this is just my desire to make something creative, something that'll last, something that I can get bound and put on my book shelf and say "That! I made that! And other people read it and enjoyed it!"
Part of it is just me really enjoying comic books as an art form and a story-telling method and wanting to participate.
And part of it just wanting to do *something*.
Anyway, towards this endeavor, I've been reading a blog, Art Order. It's not really related to comic book art. The writer is actually one of the art directors at Wizards of the Coast, and he mostly works with the D&D products. But as part of this blog he has "concept challenges", in which he throws out an idea, a description, and some specifics, and then reviews what people submit to meet the criteria two weeks later. I keep meaning to make and submit *something* to one of these. Even if I don't "win" (and I won't, there are some insanely talented people submitting to these contests) I think it would do me good to work on a time line and not to my own specifications and try to just push myself in different directions.
Anyway. The most recent one has me kinda jazzed, and kinda annoyed. It has me jazzed because the criteria is *very* specific, and that tends to be where I flake out the most (not being able to think of something to fit the concept). It has me annoyed because it's two vampires, a stealthy assassin and a brute, and of course the brute is the man and the stealthy assassin is the woman. The man even gets to be in front of the woman acting protective, and she gets to be seductive and dangerous. The stereotypes are so thick it *hurts*.
Anyway, since I'm me, I figured that I'll try... but I'll add my twist. I'll do my best to make sure the woman *is* seductive and beautiful, but at the same time make the man just as seductive and beautiful. And of course they both should be terrific (that is, they inspire terror).
Anyway. Ranty rant rant.
