Over-Due Update

May 13, 2006 18:37

I haven't updated this in a while, so I thought I would spend a little time re-capping the last few weeks or so.

SCHOOL
25 days left of school. Or rather, 25 days left with the kids. Then I have 3 days set aside to finish packing up my room. Our school is moving back to it's original building this summer, as they are just finishing up the new renovations and such. I will be glad after this year NOT to have to move an entire classroom again. It is truly a pain to pack up everything and move it; especially at the pre-k level, since we have soooo, soooo, sooooo many things. Unpacking and re-setting my room up for the third time now is going to be a huge project near the end of the summer. Fun fun.
Anyway though, I can't believe there is so little time left!! We have some field trips coming up; end of the year projects; evaluations; report cards to do one last time; and an entire classroom to pack up!!! Crazy!!

EARLY CHILDHOOD CONFERENCE
The New York State Association for the Education of Young Children Conference (NYASEYC) went pretty well. http://www.nysaeyc.org/
My friend and colleague Anique and I drove down to Saratoga for the conference last Thursday and stayed through Saturday. Our presentation entitled, BAM! KICKING LITERACY UP A NOTCH IN THE PRE-K CLASSROOM, went off from well. We presented with the third person in our group (a retired administrator we used to work with) on the Saturday of the conference. We had a pretty good sized group, and received excellent evaluations from them on our presentation, which we were quite relieved about, especially after the amount of work we did on preparing for the whole thing. It was fun, but exhausting!!!
The next step is finding a place and way to present at these kinds of conferences and workshops and actually receive pay for it!!! ;+)

SARATOGA VISIT
It worked out really well that our conference was in Saratoga Springs, because that meant I got to spend some time with one of my best friends, Chris, for a couple days, which was AWESOME! =+) It was a looong, looooong, loooong over-due visit. Sadly though, it was too short of a visit. We need a longer chunk of time!!! Though hopefully we will be able to work something out with Mr. Chris Robin as well later this month. YAY for Chris's.

SUMMER SCHOOL / SUMMER PLANS
So, I did NOT get hired to teach summer school this year. I actually was pretty excited to receive that news. I am feeling a bit burnt out from this year, and a break from teaching for a little bit might be a good good thing!!!!
Instead of teaching, I am going to be a student this summer. I have signed up and registered for lots of different workshops, conferences, and class on a variety of school topics. Building up TONS of professional development. Professional development = pay raises!!

SUMMER TRAVEL PLANS
Mark and I are still working on our summer travel plans. We are waiting to hear from his boss at work actually to see if work is going to be sending him to Florida for a national food scientist conference thing. If the conference is a go, then we will most likely be traveling through Florida and Georgia, which would be a lot of fun!!!
Here are our travel options:
1) Florida/Georgia
We would start in Orlando (where his conference is). Work our way towards Jacksonville where we have some friends. And then drive up into Georgia, probably to the Savannah area.
2) Napa Valley / Yosemite National Park area
3) Grand Canyon area, camping trip

* OK . . . . there is my short and sweet update. Time to get some work done.
