CM Fic: Make You Smile, Hotch/Reid
Title: Make You Smile
Pairing: Hotch/Reid

Summary: Reid tries to make him smile, tries to recapture what once was. Very short.
Author's Note: Haven't written in forever. Don't own anything related to Criminal Minds, all for fun. Un-betaed.
It had to have been hours; the water was lukewarm and his glass of scotch had been diluted by melted ice cubes. He didn’t know how it came to this. A sense of failure washed over him; he kept replaying the recent days, past months and even the years of his life that had been consumed by one person. All he could see was him--dark eyes, dark hair, crows feet forming around his eyes and the shine in his eyes when his smile wasn’t forced.
That’s how he knew it was over. He had come over, bottle of Merlot in one hand and take out in the other. Aaron had smiled as he opened the door, but when Spencer looked into those eyes, he no longer saw that sparkle.
He had pushed the thought aside through dinner, hoping work had just gotten the best of him this night. But as the weeks went on, the sparkle never returned. Spencer had done everything he could to try and revive the relationship, until finally giving up.
The words replayed over and over again.
“Spence, I just don’t think that I--we--can go on doing this. I don’t know where...”
He didn’t wait around long enough to let him finish, rather he had turned and walked out the door. He couldn’t help but look back; Aaron sat at the kitchen table looking at various bills, check book ready.
So easy to let go. However, Spencer would never forget.
