X = No.

One of my friends on my LJ page, Godhed aka Marla, said this in the Shitlist on ETS, and it's exactly how I feel about the subject, so I'm just going to quote her here:

"I'm really REALLY getting tired of the whole "scene" "hardxcore" thing. Unfortunately I have a good amount of friends who claim to be "scene" and I'm really getting annoyed by it. I never ever really got annoyed by any fashion trends (its more of the people) but this scene shit has to stop. The whole adding an "x" or maybe 50 x's to your name is killing me. Then not to mention all these "hardcore" bands.. I can't listen to that shit. All I hear is screaming and it's coming really close to being as bad as slipknot (note by me that should be OLD Slipknot, the latest isn't like that, they've shown more talent). I will say there are a lot of hot scene boys.. but I think i am getting closer to starting to being over it. I've just noticed over the years how it goes from people changing to being punk, goth, emo, now its "scene". I really saw it in my exboyfriend when his new band tryed out for this show.. him and his friend looked like two idiots trying to come off as being "hard core" its just such a joke."

I think basically what it is is just a bunch of sorry kids that get bored with something so they go off and make something else to be part of until they get bored with it. For the longest time it was the "punk" thing, and then the "emo" thing kicked in, and now it's "hardcore" and all this other shit. It's just a bunch of stupid crap people make up so they can feel like they're part of something because normally they wouldn't be but in the back of their minds know they want to. It's like the whole HotTopic thing. Everyone thinks the whole "retro" thing is so cool, and all the emo and goth kids go there. I go there and buy my shit because I find some of the clothes in there very artistic, and they match my style and personality. I hate being thrown into the group of losers who walk in there and listen to the music for half an hour and then buy some band short or some pants and sweatband just because it's the "thing" to do. And you know, I've never really discussed why I have a dislike of local bands that just play around their town. You know what? They aren't any good or they wouldn't be playing in their hometown still. It's fun and all but people around here think too much of these stupid little "shows" the shitty bands around here put together. There's one word for these people and it's "lame." Now go find something to do with yourselves, act like you normally would if you didn't conform to what the rest of your peers do, and do something better with yourselves. One other thing that annoys me as I'm on forums, chat on msn, go to profile sites, etc., is that in the last couple years suddenly everyones "into music." Ok, first off, everyone likes to listen to some kind of music, it's human instinct. There's a time for music, there's a time for silence, it's natural. But I get tired of everyone saying they're "into it." Into it, to me, says that it's more than just something you listen to because you belong to some stupid clique. Into it is being able to actually make music. Not just strum on some strings, but PLAY. You're into it when you know how to make music, not just by listening to it, people.

And just as a disclaimer: Tyler I know you're into the hardcore thing, so you might thing this is about you, but trust me, it's not, okay? There's the people who're cool about it and then there's the people who take it too far, and you're cool about it. Love <3.
