Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Hope is just hitting five feet tall, and has the same slender build that most Final Fantasy characters has. He doesn't look it until you stands next to someone else, but he's actually small-boned and really skinny-- enough that he doesn't look short (in fact, his physique makes him look tall) until you realize he's bitty.
2. How old is he?
14
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Slouches a little, actually. He tends to have his head down when he's not thinking about it, and his hands laced together in front of him in a very passive pose.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
No physical disabilities, although I'd say he's... average? He's more fit than most kids his age due to the constantly fighting he had to do, but at the same time woefully lacking compared to the rest of his team. Poor kid's physical strength and HP are in the pits.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
More clumsy and tense at this age, but he's got potential. Being around that growth spurts age is going to have him tripping over things a lot. Well. He does trip a lot in-game.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's cute, cheeks still rounded with baby fat. He probably does pay attention to his appearance, but just works with what he has and doesn't care for more or less.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Exceptionally pale. Hope is the palest member of an extremely pale team, full of people who haven't seen real sunlight for maaany generations (tans, what are those?). Cocoon has an artificial sun, and it really shows in its residents.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Silver-white. I'd say light gray, but it's silvery-white under Cocoon's sunlight, although looks almost bleached white in the light of Gran Pulse. But his hair curls up in the end in a way that's almost natural, but not quite. It's at the length where it curls because his collar keeps it up, but honestly, he's a teenage boy. Styling his hair is basically in the resume.
9. What color are his eyes?
Pale, pale green. Some people say blue-green. But either way, he has really light eyes.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Look closely enough, and his skin is covered with light freckles. But the only real note-worthy thing is the brand on his left wrist. This kid doesn't even really have scars.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Probably around his shoulders, seeing how he slouches.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Bright colors! Yes, that's right. He wears bright greens and oranges and yellows, although it's on top of darker colors. It's fashionable and stylish.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Somewhat. It fits, although it's the fashion that makes them look big or small. But yes, he does seem very comfortable in what he wears.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
...What job?
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers or briefs. Some people don't care, and he's one of them. Whatever's still there come laundry day, right?
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
He's fourteen. His voice is funny and cracking.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He generally speaks pretty softly and evenly. That's how his mom spoke, and he picked it up from her. Oh, and he tends to hesitate a lot before he says anything. As well as sound uncertain.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
YES. Oh man, no accent, but he's rockin' the passive speech. Tends to turn statements into questions if he's unsure, so that other people are welcome to correct him.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
The language that everyone in Cocoon speaks. 8| And that's it. He can read a little bit of Pulsian, but from what I've seen, it's because the alphabet structure and grammar is the same.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope, he only knows one language and no accents.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Why, yes, he does do very well in impromptu speeches.
Very well, in fact.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eloquent enough. He gets his point across, and he does it well. It doesn't mean he knows any fancy words or phrases, though. His speech is rather blunt and elementary and inspiring, really. But it's easy to get him fussy enough that he's inarticulate and stomping his feet. (No, seriously. It's in the game.)
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Before the game, book-smart. And I'd still abide by that, although he's gaining more wisdom. He's not particularly intelligent; just average, maybe just a little above average. You know average kids- they could always do better, but don't really have the motivation to.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He can think on his feet, but give him a few minutes, and his plans are just so much better. It might surprise people.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He's a good balance of logical and intuitive. While he has a very logical mindset, he can extrapolate answers from seemingly nowhere just on intuition. He likes skipping steps-- from A to Z from something he just knows, but can later prove it logically. And I'd say he's very idealistic.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Dude, he's a kid. Just getting ready for high school. But it's your basic public school education.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Like I said- logical. He's good at maths and strategy, and good at reading people, especially for his age. He'd probably be good with physics as well, and if he puts his mind to it, politics. Is he interested in any of this, though? Not particularly.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert, but his curiosity makes him a lot more extroverted.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
...generally quite even-tempered, but YES MOOD SWINGS ARE THERE. So I'd say the full nine yards on everything.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Depends on the new person and the situation, really. But timid in general.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Honestly? Flight. He's not stupid: most people are stronger than him. Not that he wouldn't fight, though, because he most definitely would.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He's not a very humor person-- although he does enjoy teasing people. Puns would make him groan.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Yes. it's called puberty.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Everything lately. His mom's death. Being branded as a l'Cie. When he forgave Snow. Promising to protect Light. Telling Vanille he liked her smile. Summoning Alexander because he's so scared his friends would get hurt because he's too weak. And a bunch of little things.
14. What does he fear?
Being left behind. Being weak. Being hated. Being useless. Being unable to help. That any and all of these will one day mean that someone he cares about will get really hurt or die protecting him.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To grow up and grow strong. He wants to make a difference, but at the same time, wants to be able to sink into anonymity and be normal. It's some very mixed feelings there.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
That his crush on Vanille is real, shhhhhhh. He wasn't joking that time. That sometimes he still hate everyone, including himself, for their part in his mom's death. That he can't look in a mirror for too long without feeling bitter because he supposedly looks just like his mom, but he can't see it. That while he knows his dad loves him now, he doubts they'll get any closer as a family.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
OH MY GOD do we really want to get into this? Okay. He loves his dad, but is severely disappointed with him for not being there for his family. Hope used to idolize his dad, and it was Bartholomew that told him that promises should never be broken because someone would always be hurt if they were, yet his dad was the one who later on kept breaking promises because his work got in the way. Hope soon learned to stop believing in those promises, but he got mad every time he saw his mom's concealed hurt and disappointment. Soon enough, father and son just stopped talking because Hope didn't want to worry his mom about their failing relationship, but couldn't stop seething at who Bartholomew had become.
His mom, though. Most important and beloved person in his life, hands down. He would do anything for his mother. He adored her and agreed to anything she wanted and she was his shield against the world. If anything bad happened, he could always run to his mom and she would understand. Didn't mean he wasn't going to have tantrums and fits, but he did mean that he could show them to his mom and know that she'd understand and wouldn't hold it against him. He basically lost... his entire center of gravity, when she died. He had nothing. He didn't even want to go back home to his dad.
In the end, though, Bartholomew proved he did love Hope enough beyond everything, and Hope is tentatively trying to repair his relationship with his dad.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Nope. Only child. Spoiled child.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Nope, no other family.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Yes! After the whole thing? His team. Lightning, Snow, Vanille, Sazh, and Fang.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
8| This is me. Linefacing 'cause I got nuthin'.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Not... really. He had two friends in elementary school, but they both moved away and he lost contact with them.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Both, I think. He's generally such a really nice kid, but so awkward with people that it's hard to make friends unless they reach out first.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
...PFFFFFFFT. NO.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Vanille.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He hasn't figured that out yet.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
OH MY GOD, NO.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Every bastard in the wor-- I mean. Barthandelus.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Heterosexual. Kinsey scale, though? I'd say 1-2. Honestly, he likes girls, but if some other relationship happens, then it happens. Besides, he's a late-bloomer. Who's he to say?
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
8| DO NOT TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT HE STILL REMEMBERS THE TRAUMA OF 'THE TALK'.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Seriously, let's not go there until he's a year or two older. Or even six more months, really.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
...Sadly, no, I don't know. I WANT TO KNOW. But it's kinda agreed when I asked other people that he'd be a Cancer! So, heeeey, he's a Cancer to me. |D
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Neither, I'd say. And no, he doesn't think about it.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Standard code of ethics, I'd say. Began the way it begins with any child- society. What would it take to break it? Well, for one, stripping away his freedom, humanity, future, family, home, and killing his mom. Trufax.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious, mostly.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Before? He held a lot of prejudices. Loads of them, all taught to him by school, society, and probably fairy tales as a child. Afterward, he figured out that those are lies, and makes up his own set of beliefs based on what he knew rather than what people tell him.
Does he still have prejudices, though? Absolutely. One being that he wouldn't trust a fal'Cie as far as he could throw them... and he can't throw them.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Only child, father a Sanctum employee, mother stays at home. He's pretty high up there. Government must pay a lot.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Normal child to wanted fugitive? Yeeeah, that changed him a lot. Turned his whole life upside down, really.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
His... house? is pretty much an upper class module. It's up in the sky with its own little road leading to it and a lawn and everything. The place is big and clean and high tech, the rooms spacious and well kept. Maybe too well kept. Going through his house is almost like going through a museum... beautiful, clean, not many personal belongs, and no signs that a child lives there.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Games. That's right. And he's fashionable, so I guess clothes and shoes and hairstuffs. (Have you seen the amount of hair products teenage boys need? It'll blow your mind.)
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's a kid. Student, I guess.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Video games. Read if he's really bored.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He's a teenage boy, aka an endless pit. Go ahead. Feed him.
