ROCK MUTHA F**KAAAAA! \m/ >_< \m/ part 3

Honestly I should be asleep right now since I have work in four hours but wanted to get this typed up first.

The saga of my rock concert attendance continues, this time with the 100.3 The X-Rock's first annual Halloween Xtravaganza.  For it's opening year they decided to host Papa Roach's "Monsters of Annihilation" Tour and I do have to say it was pretty kickass.  Since it was meant to be a Halloween show people were encouraged to dress up so I went as my customary Neo from the Matrix.

The drive itself was a small adventure because construction is continually changing which exit you had to turn on to get to the event center and involved me having to go back the way I came just so I could get back onto the Interstate -_- NEVERTHELESS I did manage to make it onto the floor seconds before the first band. So that was pretty awesome.  This was the first time I decided to be on the floor of the Idaho Center, normally I was up in the bleachers but was tired of people not really getting into it and wanted to be part of the action.  Now for the lineup.

Band #1- My Darkest Days: These guys are new as far as being played on my radio station but I've really enjoyed their single "Porn Star Dancing" very sensual and catchy song. They played that song at the end but their performance was fairly low key, which makes sense since they're just starting up.  I don't think they've quite got their live performance down yet but I see them having a great future in performing.  What I really loved about these guys was that after their set they went down and rocked with the audience during the other band's performance so they weren't afraid to go around shaking hands and that kind of thing.

Band #2- Trapt: Not a bad performance, they were the ones that got a few crowd suffers going and the audience into the general mood of the event.  Vocalist was a little swallowed up by the instruments so only the songs I knew I could really understand.  Not much I really remember from them.

Band #3- Skillet:  These guys put on a great show. I really like their intense take on Christian rock with songs such as "Monster" and "Hero" and they really brought the vocals on strong. The female drummer was amazing although I was a little dissapointed that her singing parts didn't make it through the speakers very well. Two parts in particular struck me as very cool. The first was that their stage included hyrdaulic lifts that took some of the band mates probably up around 12 feet in the air and back down. The second was that a lot of their new music includes an electric cello and they actually had a guy on stage playing it. Most times you have any sort of orchestral contribution it is either pre-recorded or left out entirely. I'm glad to see they included a live instrument.  This was the band that really got everyone excited and beginning their moshpits and crowd suffering.  Definitely was a highlight of the evening.

Band #4- Papa Roach: Okay, these guys have been doing the touring deal for a long time and it shows. The performance was very slick in its lighted displays, colored lights, and fog. These guys make the entire arena go absolutely insane. I was involved in my first ever mosh pit which I normally avoid since a hard gust of air is generally enough to turn my nose into a blood geyser. And yet despite taking a shoulder blade to the face I was perfectly okay. Weird...But yeah, they put on a good 90 minute set and showcased a good amount of old and new material.

By the time it was all over I'd been screaming and jumping like a maniac for about 4 1/2 hours.  Thus I get to add four more bands to the list of ones I've seen perform.  It now makes me think of a few bands I'd LOVE to see sometime in concert, mostly System of a Down, Disturbed, and Rammstein. *sigh* If only...
