Quietus: You Decide When

Went and saw "The Children of Men today" (review) ....Wow

This is just what a movie should be,

It makes you think about it LONG after you have left the theater. The stupid reviewer in the Seattle PI gave it a B- because he hates it "when you have to think about a film afterwards", how does this guy keep his job?

The CGI they used to mix with the scenery and the battle scenes was FLAWLESS - no giant dinosaurs here folks, just little bits' and pieces that ADDED to the mood and intensity. I don't think they actually delivered a baby on the set, but... damn that's good CGI !

I can't even imagine how they filmed some of the battle scenes - they are TWENTY minute long UNBROKEN takes. If you know anything about film making all it takes is one of the extras to laugh or something to ruin a take for the other 100 actors on the set, the mind boggles as to how many takes it required to film a combat scene all in one long unbroken shot.

The ping-pong ball scene was either great CGI or took about 4000 tries to film.

I liked how the director used animals in the film - all the animals seem to like the otherwise unlikeable main character, so you know he's a good guy.

You could run this movie a dozen times and still see something new - like all the art collector's exhibits he has stashed away... (Pink Floyd refrence here, mixed with Picasso and Michelangelo)

I'll give you the best joke in the movie now - because they kind of ruin it with British accents:
(skip if you don't want to "ruin" it - but i didn't get how funny it was till' I read it later)

"So who's the father?"

"Father? ... There was no father.... I'm a virgin..."
- "Nah ! Just joking ! Woudn't that be a kicker though!"
