T minus 2.5

All is well here - not a lot to report! I'm a little fatigued in general, and specifically from carrying around the extra weight and getting jostled from the inside out so much! It's a good sign that Cletus (the Fetus) is active and healthy, but... I'm still a little tired. We're basically at the waiting phase, at about 37.5 weeks, and as the doctor put it earlier this week, "He could come any day, or he could come in five weeks." So, we're trying to take advantage of our last days as just a couple! A few dinner dates and excursions around town. Last weekend we had a party - Marcus outdid himself with mountains of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, broccoli salad, homebrew, and banana pudding! So we were able to have about 40 friends and colleagues over, checking the entertainment box hopefully for the foreseeable future! The weather has been summery - probably two straight weeks of temperatures in the 70s - so we've been spending a fair amount of time enjoying that too. My brother Matthew has been visiting, which has been fun, though he will head back to the States shortly before Junior is scheduled to arrive. We also had a nice little baby shower at work earlier in the week, both for us and for my colleague Hanne, who is also scheduled to have her first baby in early August. We really are mostly ready for baby in terms of stuff and the house (we have a really cute wall decorated with stickers now), and are trying to take care of various last things like reading up a little more on labor and delivery, writing a birth plan, getting a little more serious about baby names. So things have been pleasant and pretty low-key.

I guess I'm brave enough to post a 36 week belly picture. Maybe this will be the last one. The baby has already dropped some, meaning the widest part of me is a little lower than it was a few weeks ago. He's still head-down, which is good. I'll go back to the doctor on Wednesday and maybe will have a slightly better idea of when he might put in his appearance, but mostly it's hard to predict - too many indicators that can occur either weeks before the baby comes or only when you are in labor! Anyway, wish us luck...
