Bangkok aftermath

As promised, here are some photos of damage from our neighborhood for anyone curious about what happened in these parts when the protests went sour last month.  I have mixed feelings about posting them, since I'm not titillated by arson, nor is it a happy reminder of a bad time for Bangkok.  On the plus side, though, these pictures were taken a couple of days after we moved back into the neighborhood and some of the buildings are already on their way to renewal.  These pictures are all taken on Rama IV Road, a 7-10 minute walk north of our house - which means that we would have had to pass through this area to get to work or the center of town.  Hence our temporary (mandatory) move.

And, of course, the small business with the misfortune of being next to the Tesco/Lotus:

For good measure, the K Bank branch:

And, a bunch of electrical wires/phone cable on the streets in front of the burned-out buildings.  I'm not sure why it was there, but there was a lot of it.

These are just the photos from our neighborhood, and aren't in any way representative of the worst of the destruction in Bangkok, since it mostly took place in other neighborhoods.  We haven't been out to gawk or take pictures at those locations.  Here's hoping this is the final chapter of mass chaos and destruction for our two year stay here.
