not-BMF and other awesomes.

Well as many of you will know the weekend just gone was Musgrave World Medieval Tournament and Fayre, refered to by many reenactors as not-BMF (Brisbane Medieval fayre).

Despite a complete tool running the show in previous years culmulating in taking everyones money last year and doing a runner the new organisers stepped upto the plate and produced a fantastic show. Until the council got involved. 2 days out they started making rediculous demands; no camping, no fires, no booze licence which meant no tavern, no tent pegs? WTF?.

It wasn't like there was any real reason why all this needed to be done, every other show had been a family event with groups camping in the park from the friday, fires are of course ubiquitous and anyone stupid enough to demand reenactors erect free-standing tents needs a hard smack around the head with a piece of railway track.

So other than retarded council workers the show was great. Would have been nice if some members of the public had actually showed up mind you, having what is supposed to be one of the largest shows on our calender with only 74 people in the audience for the grand tournament is a bit poo.

Speaking of tournament I have heard non-stop praise of my fighting on the weekend, despite a huge contusion on my leg [and a broken visor on my bascinet] from saturdays clash with one of the Knights Bannerette I felt that I fought reasonably well. Sir Justin cleaving apart my arming belt at Abbey was probably one of the best things to happen to me all year as it forced me to make a paltock instead, the upshot of which was that my cuisses finally sat properly and I moved in harness better than I have ever done before.

As such whilst I still lost a fair number of fights on the weekend including the notable clash with his Grace, Bishop Falco St Cler on the saturday, I ended up with a number of good wins on the Sunday including leveling the score in spectacular fasion [If I do say so myself] with an off-target head-shot tearing off his visor! I also had two wins over fellow Esquire Hugo, and one over Esquire Vardis, and a win against Sir Wulfrem from KEG. Whilst I fought the whole tourney on the saturday, my injuries coupled with the heat forced me to retire after the first Melee on the sunday due to heat exhaustion as I was nearing collapse stage.

---------------------

Today I finally picked up my collectors edition of Warhammer online, and can I just say that whilst the standard editions packaging is nothing special, EA/Mythic have gone all out with the Collectors. HOLY CRAP.

The 25x34x7cm matte finish box is embossed with metallic finishes on much of the art work. The 128-page graphic novel is gorgeous but dwarfed by the 224-page art book that I must say is simply stunning. As an amature developer I love books with concept art and insights into the design process behind games, I thought the one for Spore was pretty but this is simply awesome. Black Library have outdone themselves. The minature is faily standard GW faire and cast in white metal as most blister pack minatures from GW have for over 10 years now, despite being staggeringly detailed anyone who has played with GW's current range will know that its nothing above and beyond any of their normal range of special characters.

However, seeing as his is all only around $50 more than the standard DVD case game I am simply staggered by both the sheer amound of stuff in this box, the attention to detail and the level of quality. Somehow EA didnt manage to fuck this one up. Coupled with the bonus exclusive in-game content, I am reminded why I do buy games rather than simply pirate them.

ouch, awesome, musgrave, electronic arts, bmf, warhammer
