Day Ninety-Two: Accuracy

Sep 30, 2013 23:47

Make every move count.
Pick your target and hit it.
Perfect concentration means
Effortless flowing.

I spend a lot of time thinking about doing things before I do them. Not always, but a fair most of my decisions and actions have some lead-up involved. I wonder sometimes if it's too much, if I need to be more spontaneous.

... That is why followers of Tao are always compounding their self-cultivation. They want the ability to do whatever they want. ...

Compounding self-cultivation. I kinda like that as a phrase. Take what you have and build on it to get more. Layers upon layers of adjustment and change to bring yourself into line with where you want to be. I don't assume that the desire to do what I want is THE reason why I would do such a thing, but I can get behind it being one of the reasons, sure. :)

... All that matters is accomplishing what you envision with the greatest dispatch. Once you do, that aspect of your interest is discharged, and you can then go on to some new interest. ...

The more this lesson goes on, the less I like it! I really don't like the idea that we're just a collection of interests and getting rid of one is just to make room for whatever's next in the queue.

... Some assert that there is no end to desire, so we should undercut our ambition. But this doesn't address the need for satisfaction. We need to have satisfaction in what we do in order to have a good sense of well-being. ...

This hits home especially hard tonight, since it's my last night as a (head)staffer on TR. For those in the Audience who don't know what such a thing is (however few you are), that would be one of the three volunteers in charge of a text-only role-playing game with upwards of 150-200 strangers. I've been at it for two years, but a couple months ago I realized... it was looking like time to step away. I gave myself a break to see if it was real, or just weariness. It was real. So I spoke with my fellow Headstaffer about what to do next, spent a few weeks tidying up loose ends and making the joint as neat as possible. And tonight, I left. No lingering, no hesitation. It felt right, the proper time to act, the correct timeline, done and done.

It's just a silly game. But it took up a large chunk of my energy and attention and creativity for two years. So it feels... good? Satisfying? To have finished my time there Properly. I don't know a better word for it.
