....

Is that...

....

Oh Lord, no. No, this can't--! [The voice cuts off in a hiss of pain.

So Grell is back and not so happy per usual. She's been dumped in the middle of the town square, quite beaten up and more than a little broken, and, most of all, quite human. For the next two weeks, Grell is one of the plain old ( Read more... )

[Another evening of patrol. Another evening of looking out for Buffy.

...and speaking of kidnap victims...

Giles stops dead when he sees the lump of red on the ground, and that lump of red resolves itself into Grell.]

Oh. Um...

...um...

...h-hello.

[Grell looks...kind of beaten up. He guesses that's generally what happens when you come back from a kidnapping, but. Um.]

[Grell whips her head around, instantly regretting the move and wincing, almost collapsing against the ground again. She tries to push herself at least up onto her hands, but her arms are shaking too badly to get more than a small distance off the pavement.]

...Oh it would be you, wouldn't it. Better than the Heroine, I suppose.

Yes, but you're my favorite witch~ consultmybooks August 16 2011, 02:08:31 UTC
Yes, it would be me. That's, um, that's why I keep up with these patrols, after all. Why we both do.

Although Buffy isn't in town at the moment.

[Giles lets himself take a couple of very small steps nearer.]

...you're hurt.

I know. I met Blondie in the detention centre. Delightful conversation partner, that one. Likes to punch at the walls for no good reason.

[Grell keeps trying to push herself off the ground, giving Giles a cold look. She doesn't want anyone to get too close. If they do, they could find out about her little...mortality problem.]

How observant of you.

Did you? And what sort of things did you discuss?

[Giles takes a seat a few feet away from Grell - just out of grabbing distance. His face is very calm, almost...blank. The last time Giles looked this expressionless? He was smothering someone.]

Injured to the point of needing a trip to the clinic, even.

[She gives Giles a thin smile and rolls onto her side, pushing herself up against the fountain.]

So, am I to see the ruthless side of you, my love? Going to squeeze the life out of me, are you?

[He smiles faintly.]

I could be persuaded to help you along to the clinic.

It would be quite a favor, but...I'm not saying no.

[A very, very slight emphasis on the f-word.]

Tricky man you are, Rupert Giles, tricky, but no.

[She keeps breathing shallowly, smirking at him.]

Do you think I'd let you off that easily?

If you had a choice? No, you certainly wouldn't.

...do you have a choice?

I could always wait. I'm sure Smoker shall be looking for me soon enough.

[As long as that tramp 'sister' of his isn't with him.]

So it would seem.

[She pulls it closer and taps it, replaying the main message.]

Ugh, how unsightly. I do hate making such unsuitable entrances.

Then yes, someone will probably be along to cart you off soon enough.

...you won't let me out of our current arrangement, then? Not even in return for, and this is strictly hypothetical, not getting shot in the throat?

....

[Tricky indeed. For once, she actually fears that, knowing she couldn't dodge the bullet as she would otherwise.

But after a brief hesitation, she smiles again.]

You do know that, hypothetically, upon killing me, you would release me from every agreement myself and young Buffy Summers has, yes?

And why is that? I thought our arrangement was entirely separate from Buffy and the others, beyond the fact that I agreed to keep mum about the fact that it wasn't a Battle Dome malfunction that landed me in the clinic for a week.

Because you are among her "sacred," Rupert Giles. But at the same time, any harm done by any of you to any of mine constitutes a breach of contract.

[Grell shrugs and winces, looking away.]

Not that you would care much for that. Coming all the way out here, trying to blackmail me into getting help, threatening to kill a defenseless lady when she has naught but her two bare hands to save her. How the mighty have fallen, dear Giles. I see a twist coming to your Record.
