Explaining the title(s);
The exercise was that you walk into a party with all these great amazing people, and then your host comes over and asks you to tell your story, and say what you are. We can (obviously) be abstract, which I am, or we can be ourselves (which I'm not) or whatever (like Gonzo!)
If you don't understand the second title, than I can't help you.
The Party
or
The Pete Townshend Answer
Me? I ask
I, who you all pretend not to know?
Me, I’m a mystery
Me, I’m the truth
I shout up to the rafters
Whisper down to the floor
Slither in one ear,
Fall out the other
Play in rapid succession
From tongues, teeth, fingers, eyes
I’m mis-used, un-used, over-used
Played like a harp
Drowned out by myself
I’m fleeting and eternal
Far too popular and never used enough
I see everything, I am everything
And I do justice to everything I am
But nothing I describe
I am Hate, Love, Fear, Euphoria,
The scope of human emotions
I am
Antidisestablishmentarianism
I am the size of one letter
But greater than all
I am Alexander the Great Gatsby
Cleopatra, Hecatie, Algernon,
Oh yes, you all stir at those names,
But I am greater by far
I saw Pompeii, before it was buried
Atlantis, before it sank
Rome, before it burned,
I raise up the world and bring it tumbling down
With
One…
One What? One of me.
Me? I, myself, the other
You.
Yes you.
I will leave tonight on your lips
Ring in your skull
Still don’t know?
Write me behind your eyes
In your mind
Write me down
Can you yet read my meaning?
Read my face?
Read my
Words.
Words…
That’s ALL that I am.
