What about running chkdsk /r on the affected drive? It'll require you to restart first (it can't run on your system drive while Windows is in session), and it may take a while, but it may help.

Of course, I'd definitely demand to know just what they meant by "difficult" first.

*big wibblely eyes of gratitude* I was hoping you'd see this eventually. XD

What would chkdsk do? I already found the folder where everything was stashed. It's in C:\USERDATA. It's not hidden but it's the only folder that's telling me that it "is not accessible. Access is denied"

chkdsk "checks a disk and displays a status report." With the /r option, it "locates bad sectors and recovers readable information", implying also fixing errors on the disc.

But if you've found the data somewhere else, then you may not need chkdsk at all. If the folder gives you an access denied message, how can you tell that all your stuff is there? Can you get its total size from its properties?

You may want to consider burning a K/Gnoppix live CD and booting from that, then seeing if the data is accessible, and if it is, moving/copying it to a different directory.

Looking at the properties tells me the folder is empty.

Google searching the problem led me to here. I'm not sure about the program itself but the demo version was just the scanner so I figured it couldn't hurt. The results came up showing that it was almost as if my entire computer was squashed into that folder (neatly organized into subfolders). The stuff that I had on my desktop was there too.
