Apologies for not being online much... The year has been winding up for me and a lot of things have been going on.
Finished finals this week. All grades are in and despite getting a B in Logic, the surprise A in senior seminar more than made up for it. So I leave college with a 3.625 overall.
*wheeeeeeeeew*
Being a Catholic college, we had a "Mass of Academic Investature" this morning with an awards ceremony in the afternoon. Both were really nice but I almost didn't go to the awards ceremony. The letter that came in the mail got tossed aside with all my other grad information and by the time it was pulled out again, we found out that we had to RSVP and the deadline for that had already passed a few days before.
But really I'd only be stuck if I had responded with "No I'm not coming" so I still got to show up, walk down the aisle and I got my colored tassel to wear on my cap tomorrow.
It's Magna, it's blue and the best part is....it's legitimate. Kinda got worried for a while since my diploma will reflect my actual status and Logic had the potential to knock me down. But it didn't and...it's like for once I'm really proud of myself from an academic standpoint. I know I seem to obsess about my grades a lot and getting a 3.6, especially at the end of semesters. To be honest I'm really not that obsessed with studying. It's just that....it's a weird story.
I kinda gave myself a small complex going into college. I just barely missed graduating with honors in high school (had to end with a 3.6) and I was the only one in my circle of friends who didn't. I never really got over that. That's what happens when you hang out with the smart kids. I mean...I never thought I was stupid and no one ever made me feel that way. All testing shows that I AM above average. But it was just hard to handle. I was close (some more than others) with a lot of the of the national honor society members in my class (to the point where the NHS moderator once drafted me into helping them do their dirty work and actually looked at me funny when I said I'm not in NHS. Hello...you're the one who makes the selections and you forgot that you never inducted me?). And sometimes it would be frustrating when people assumed that my grades were as good as the company I chose to keep.
"Going to the NHS meeting tonight?"
"No, I'm not in NHS."
"Really? I see you with those guys all the time."
Yeah...I know I'm with them all the time. Being guilty of association bothered me much so more than the actual association ever could...usually because somehow, I would always end up having to correct them as to what my status actually is...and then see the surprised looks. It didn't help that it's becoming more and more apparent that I have really smart siblings too. I just never felt like "one of the best". Just....."best of the rest" XD And I wanted to be one of the best...but only because I truly WAS and not because of association.
So....I just wanted to get in college what I couldn't achieve in high school. And "honors" wasn't good enough. It's had to be a 3.6 and "high honors". No friends. No siblings. No assumptions. No mistakes. No association. No nothing. Aaaaall me.
While it isn't "highest honors" I gotta tell ya it is DAMN satisfying to get it and keep it.
No regrets.
I should return to more active duty in the middle of the week. But for now I need sleep....big day tomorrow.
*afterthought*
And in spite of all of my claims to the opposite...I was suffering from an inferiority complex...wasn't I.
Not because of my friends...oh gosh, Pete is one of the smartest guys I know (this is NOT a biased statement) and I'm actually happiest when I'm with him. But still...all these really nice, but still untrue, assumptions made about me based on my friends totally drove me nuts didn't it.
