Life Goes On

I'm in Houston, LOVING my internship and making some mad money and having a really awesome time. The other interns are awesome, the job is really fun, and I'm getting to meet and do a lot of wicked cool stuff. Houston is an awful place to live though, I live in urban sprawl in 90-100 degree weather with 100% humidity and thunderstorms almost every day. I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend their life here.

Now I have to start looking for a more permanent job though. But luckily I have friends in high places so I'm hoping something will work out soon. I'm hoping to get a bio lab job since NASA doesn't really hire students unless they are doing a graduate thesis or are on an internship/co-op.

Tuesday I got to meet the astronauts that just came back from space on Discovery. I got autographs and pictures and I was just in awe. I also got to watch the launch and landing of Discovery from Johnson Space Center and have gone on tours of mission control and the neutral bouyancy lab. I have also met people like David McKay, a name most of you probably don't recognize, but he is the lead scientist who published about ALH84001, the meteorite with "fossil evidence of life" from Mars (although that is highly debated). But he pretty much launched the field of astrobiology through that paper, so he's an amazing person for me to see everyday at work.

So yeah, it's been a really amazing summer so far, I couldn't imagine a better way to spend this summer. Now where do I go from here?
