So, here i am going to bed and, as it currently stands, it looks like 4 more years. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't angry. i'd be lying if i said i didn't want to find everyone who voted for that dumb fuck and personally beat the living shit out of them. i know that i'm probably one of several millions posting live journal entries about the election right now, and tomorrow i'm sure the last thing you'll want to read is more commentary on a depressing subject, but here is my take on it:

i'm not going to scream bloody-recount. i'm not going to stand up and claim it was another stolen presidency. i'm tired of that. i needed a change on november 3rd and i'm going to get it no matter who wins. bush got his second chance (barring some miracle tonight) and he'd better fucking take it. he now has a country full of terrified people that aren't scared of terrorists or bombings, but of the man in the white house. our leader. i hope he knows that. i hope that when he approaches the podium to make his speech surrounded by countless body guards protecting him from his own people, he realizes what he's gotten himself into. i hope he knows that we don't respect, trust, or even like him. and i hope he knows that we're watching.

by 'we' i mean the youth. the future. those who overwhelmingly registered and sounded out against him. if this election failed to replace the current administration, it succeded in something perhaps more important. it informed a generation of the corruption capable in our own government. it awoke a sense of responsiblity an an age famous for its apathy. i was in time square today. i saw the masses of people (most younger than me!) gathered to celebrate the fact that once every 4 years, we have this beautiful chance to be heard...to change. I talked to so many people at work today that told me they had never cared about politics until recently. they hadn't known until this year, when so many people worked so hard to make sure that people knew and cared. and it worked! granted, not perfectly. but when you look at how high the voter turnout rose...when you look at how hard people tried...how is it anything but a victory on some level?

there is still so much ignorance in this country. so much fear of that which is different or new. but not for much longer, i believe. bush can and will do many horrible, terrifying things in another term. it turns my stomach to think about it...but this time it IS different. this time we're all watching like fucking hawks. this time we're angry from the get-go. we, as the youth of this country, need change. and if they think they've heard us...well, we were just warming up our voices. they try and fuck this country over again, and they'll see just how loud we can scream.

that's all i have at 2:22 am...
