What we are seeing, basically, is the emergence of an anti-American international leftist power bloc in Latin America, only centered on Venezuela rather than Cuba, and much more independent than the old Cuban one. This is happening with far less American and international awareness precisely because it is not firmly in the orbit of any Great Power; unnoticed, the alliance is working its way up toward Great Power status on its own.
Ortega (who is one of the links between the old and the new blocs) is following Chavez's script of gaining power through election and then holding on to it through thuggery, electoral fraud and the elimination of term limits. This strategy is important because (by turning presidents into dictators) it cements membership in the bloc. This is what Zelaya was doing when the Hondurans thankfully expelled him.
Obama, whether from incompetence or treason, is aiding the schemes of Chavez. He has already handed Chavez an immense diplomatic prize by helping to drag the OAS firmly on the side of Chavez: no longer can the OAS combat Chavez's goals. Obama is also probably the main reason why no other country on Earth has recognized the Micheletti government, despite its clearly Constitutional nature. With America and anti-American Powers opposing such recognition, there is no reason (save honesty) for any country to recognize the Micheletti government.
There have been times in my life that I have been embarassed to see America doing evil, but known that it was necessary for our national interests. Now, for the first time, I have to witness America doing evil against her national interest, and it is a painful spectacle.
