Third of a century party

Went to umlimno's third of a century party (or July birthday in November party) last night (Saturday evening). Apart from umlimno, sly_girl and Fiona, did not know anyone there. But that was fine.

The theme was buy umlimno some music on vinyl and dress to what you bought him. I was flipping through the 5-for-$10 album rack at the second-hand music shop in Yarraville, picking out album covers I could dress to when I came across the music for the London stage production of Camelot. "Sweet!" I thought, and went in tights, black shirt, long belt with purse, bits of arm armour and the chain mail coif that mr_bassman made for me.

I arrived a bit after 6.30pm and stayed to a bit after midnight. Met Kate F, umlimno's housemate, who I had not met, before and various friends. The party never got particularly big, but there were plenty of nibbles (including good cheese), Kate get bringing the hot food out (including potato gems--umlimno recommends them with mayonnaise as good hangover breakfast food) and a lot of chat and laughter. Did some show-and-tell with my medieval things and generally had a good time.

Found two of Peter G's black-and-white studies of male nude form on the wall, which was sweet. Kate has a lovely (and well-trained) golden retriever, which she eventually brought out. She has a dog-washing business (not a franchise) which she does 3 days a week and still enjoys after doing it for two years: though apparently it is not so fun in wet weather and is quite physically demanding (hence does it part-time). She also does market-research work from home. In fact, it was striking how many people there were in small business of various varieties.

Was really kicking myself for not having gone to Golgotha on Monday night, which was apparently a good night. I suspect I would have seen lots of old faces and had a good time, but dipped out because I was too tired and too comfortable at home.
