Piano Workshop

M and N gave me a present of a piano weekend workshop put on by them at Hawthorn Music Studio. Apart from a little bit of recorder at Primary school many years ago, I have never learnt any musical instrument and could not read music prior to the workshop.

After two days, I can now read music and play a fairly simple tune on a keyboard, so I am impressed. The workshop was also lots of fun.

There were three of us: Stephen, MD of specialised, software company; Anthony, head of commercial IT for a major corporation; and me. M did the workshop, apart from one session on Sunday afternoon that N did.

The workshop is based on the Music Logic™ system, which I can heartily recommend. We worked in easy stages, with periodic practice and a very clear-and clearly well-tried and tested-teaching regime. My fellow participants were veterans of corporate training and were very impressed at how much we learnt how easily.

So, I now have practice exercises, plenty of suitable sheet music but no keyboard. So, either it is practising at friend’s places (trying to remember who has pianos, apart from M & N) or purchasing a keyboard. I am told you can get a reasonable one for not so much really.

I am pretty chuffed at being able to read music, and having a base from which I could, if I practise, build up some reasonable ability to play a keyboard.
