Tuesday night, Nick informed me he was moving out. Since he is now working in Ringwood, Kingsville is just too far. After much thought, decided I will just advertise for two new flatmates (nice house, $80pw rent, $30pw bills), rather than finding somewhere on my own. Too expensive, a lot of bother, and I like the house and the area.
Wednesday night, did laundry at Wendy/Bek’s and we had Vietnamese together. Came back latish and found that Nick had locked himself out. Unfortunately for him, I have left my mobile at home to re-charge!
Been doing a lot of film watching.
Monday night, watched
Spy Game, which was better than the reviews I had read had led me to believe.
Tuesday, re-acquainted myself with
Conan the Barbarian, a truly epic film. James Earl Jones makes a great villain. Love Mako’s character.
Wednesday, did the same for
Willow which I enjoyed all over again.
Continuing to work every weekday, am now already fully booked until the end of next week.
Monday was Crime & Punishment at Catholic Regional College St Albans. Kids were fine.
Tuesday was casual teaching at Catholic Junior Regional College, Keilor North. Three double periods, two classes which I found no problem, one notoriously dodgy class which I found I could deal with. I seem to be getter better at conveying menace. The time it took to get from my place to the Dynon Rd entrance to City Link was about the same at it then took to get to the Melton highway turnoff from the Calder Freeway.
Wednesday was Crime & Punishment, Education & Games, Tourney at Banksia Seconary,
Daffyd’s school. Daffyd participated in the tourney with Rohan and I. Banksia last year was a bit of a schmozzle. The organising teacher had learnt from her mistakes, and it worked much better this year. The only trouble was Rohan and I had to lug all the gear from car park to gym and then most of it (with some help) back again.
I had to drive Nigel’s station wagon - which stalled if you took your foot off the accelerator - back to Hawthorn. Got it all the way without stalling it once. Mind you, the brake pads got a pounding. Really brought home how much I drive with foot on neither brake nor accelerator.
Thursday (today) was casual teaching at Sunshine Secondary (Ardeer Junior campus). Kids were basically fine if you growled at them appropriately. The school has booked me for Thursday and Friday of next week (I have medieval days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday).
Jennifer is still ringing each day over project issues. I explained to her that political behaviour has very particular dynamics. At one level, one’s entire sense of identity at stake. At another, the basic contours of your life (e.g. income, mortgage, etc) is not. Thus you get deeply emotive behaviour but without a sense of restraint.
The moral (!) perils of
bicycle riding.
Being sensible about the
Windschuttle debate - a response to Manne once again telling us that
dissent is evil. (Indeed, anyone who disagrees with Robert Manne is evil.)
The gaoling of Pauline Hanson is not getting much coverage
in Asia.
