In praise of reality TV.

I never use IE in any version. Another post on just one of the reasons why one does not click on the blue E.

Internet Explorer is still useful for two purposes:

1. Running Windows Update on a new install of Windows, up until it bootstraps the Microsoft Update functionality, which no longer requires IE to operate. Having just built a Windows 2000 virtual machine, I am familiar with this process. Can you say "reboot", kiddies?

2. Navigating to http://getfirefox.com/ to download a web browser.

Apart from that, you're right: the blue E is to be avoided. I just felt like being pedddantic...

There is nothing wrong with pedantry. In Bertrand Russell's words a man who prefers his statements to be true.

And of course US presidents are left handed! The Democrat ones are all just gauche, but the Republicans are downright sinister!

Friends don't let friends use IE.

Further, for the Linuxistas out there, it turns out that even avoiding Windows doesn't make you entirely safe from IE. (Although it does have the warning "Please, don’t use any of these IEs to navigate!! Get Firefox.")

I used the IEs4Linux for a while to help with website testing, since I do my dev work in Linux. Ultimately gave up on them because they don't provide a 100% accurate IE experience, so I can never know for sure that something that works for me in IE in Linux will work for the ordinary sad sacks using IE in Windows. Besides, VMWare is free (gratis) and has no such problems.

I've found it useful in persuading the BMC Remedy User client to run under Wine.

The problem with this is that I have BMC Remedy User running natively under wine.

I am learning to thoroughly HATE Remedy with a deep fiery and abiding passion. Oh, holy Christ, how it sucks. But that's another rant.
