Sleep

Apr 03, 2008 04:06

I am waking up a lot at 3am, 4am, 5am. I strongly suspect the irritating noisy neigbhours. Particularly as, waking up at about 3.30am this morning, I could hear banging coming from their place.

This interrupted sleep pattern is not helping. Did a holiday program at St Leonard's College on Tuesday for almost 30 kids aged 4-12. Was lots of fun. I held a court where dressed up three of the kids, so a visiting Earl knighted someone, who received the village in fealty from the Baronness and then imposed various punishments on recalcitrant peasants to show he was up to the job. Stocks, mutilations, floggings. Normal stuff. The kids were bright. They even managed to nominate the most common medieval punishment (fines) without too many of the normal capital or gory suggestions.

Then did various dances and games.

Then did some arms and armour (viking, early mail knight, middle coat-of-plates knight, late plate armour knight). Then squire training and hitting me. The kids were mostly far too nice to hit anything but my shield, but we all had lots of fun. The kids enthusiastically agreed so at the end of the session.

It was all good. What was less good was how tired I was for the rest of the day. Went to Cafe Stormhold but was not really up to fighting, so helped with Pegasus sticky-taping instead. Gave Sir Sheridan a lift home, which was fun--he is excellent company. I was also tired--in the sleep deprived sense--the following day (Wednesday). Got some useful reading done, but almost none of the writing I was hoping to do.

Did manage a breakthrough on Monday on said writing. Had already decided, rather than try and painfully work through last May's draft which mishymoocow had made lots of useful suggestions about, to write a new version, looting bits of the old as appropriate. The breakthrough was to make the story about how I came to understand why what had happened, happened. But am in much better place to write about it.

Which made the debilitating sleepiness on Wednesday somewhat frustrating. There may be some internal processing going on, of course. Will be spending the next few days with N and M developing products which provide change to significantly increase earnings, a good and needed thing. Hopefully, will slip in some writing on the way through.
