The unbalanced nature of heterosexuality: If God really wants us to have heterosexual sex only, and then only within the bounds of holy matrimony, and if adultery offends Him so much-it's a stoning offense, right up there with gay sex-how come He designed men and women to be sexually incompatible ( Read more... )

Interesting. My management style is rather similar to the "gay" style outlined in that article. They say that growing up gay in high school has a fair bit to do with it. I wonder if the fact that I was commonly thought to be gay in high school is a factor.

To me, the "gay" approach to management just seems to make sense. I like taking a 'cheerleader' approach because I've found that unless you've got a totally useless employe (completely uninterested in the task, or otherwise just hostile) they respond better to encouragement than anything else.

Also, I just find people don't tend to get encouraged very much and are generally starved for approval. I'm always amazed how I can get a typical blue collar guy's face to light up when I tell him he's doing a great job. The movie 'Kenny' did a great job of putting a human face to that problem but there's alot of room for improvement still.

Of course, another factor is "Your typical hetero male is programmed as a boy that there are two emotions: angry and tired," he says. "These are gross limitations that restrict our ability to be great managers."

I wasn't brought up that way because my Dad was an absent influence in my life. And my Mum was a feminist, so I'm largely free of most of the gender-role psychological baggage. Alot of people say I'm "in touch with my feminine side" but I prefer to think of it as being comfortable with my feminine side.
