To me, the "gay" approach to management just seems to make sense. I like taking a 'cheerleader' approach because I've found that unless you've got a totally useless employe (completely uninterested in the task, or otherwise just hostile) they respond better to encouragement than anything else.
Also, I just find people don't tend to get encouraged very much and are generally starved for approval. I'm always amazed how I can get a typical blue collar guy's face to light up when I tell him he's doing a great job. The movie 'Kenny' did a great job of putting a human face to that problem but there's alot of room for improvement still.
Of course, another factor is "Your typical hetero male is programmed as a boy that there are two emotions: angry and tired," he says. "These are gross limitations that restrict our ability to be great managers."
I wasn't brought up that way because my Dad was an absent influence in my life. And my Mum was a feminist, so I'm largely free of most of the gender-role psychological baggage. Alot of people say I'm "in touch with my feminine side" but I prefer to think of it as being comfortable with my feminine side.
