In which a fence falls on my car

Sep 23, 2006 12:32

A few days ago, it was extremely blowey, and I passed where my car was parked and thought that fence is moving around a lot in the wind, I should probably move my car but didn’t

When I came back, the fence had fallen on my car and someone had kindly put a towel under the fence post on my car. A little later my housemate, Snake (who’s looking for work again, it turned out that the bloke he got the job with is one of those guys who thinks business is just about hustling) mentioned that someone had left a note on my car windscreen.

He hadn’t actually noticed that there was a fence resting on my car as well.

The note was from the nice young couple who are renting the house whose fence fell on my car. They lifted the fence up, so I could drive my car away. The fence was then able to complete its union with ground.

The only damage was a few very minor scratches on the rubber seal around the back window.

Friday night, gave Dawn/Elene a lift over to doushkasmum and sacred_chao”s place for after-work celebratory drinks for doushkasmum getting a new job. sjkasabi eventually joined us, as did mr_bassman, mrsbrown and Rosie. Much fun and frivolity was had by all.

Despite me turning up with blue cheese, which I had forgotten doushkasmum’s doesn’t eat.

I have months worth of notes about things that have happened I haven’t actually got around to writing up, stuff going to back to before I moved house. So, here's some ...

Old Stuff
Such as, going for my evening walk-with-weights a few months ago, and having some hoons throw eggs at me from a car. Very brave of them. So now I walk the circuit the other way around, so the hoon-congregating area at the McDonalds™ is at end of walk and on side of road with cars heading towards me. (Haven’t seen any sign of them since.)

Was getting very tired, so took up the Neways™ supplements for a while. Which seemed to work, as I stopped being tired all the time.

One Wednesday, checking over Otter St Hall for Stormhold Baronial invest (the hall is much improved from when Stormhold used to hold fighter-practices there), had one of the best soy moccha’s ever at Suede in Smith St. (Service a little slow, décor my style, music pleasant, beef-and-lager pie very tasty.)

Had been noticing a bit of a bunny explosion in the industrial area I go through in my evening walk-with-weights. It was nice to see the eco system working as one expects-saw a particularly sleek and well-fed looking fox.

Had my car serviced. My mechanic thought I should complain to the car repairers as my back axle was noisier than it should be, but I was too busy and let it slide.

Got the fluey-bug thing that has been going around, and for a couple of weeks was regularly too tired and drained in the afternoon and evening to do more than minimal research and some editing work for the consultancy. When I recovered, finally got around to doing the tedious number-crunching I had been putting off-mere updating, which lacks the excitement of new discovery.

Collected the Stormhold (clothing) Hospitallery from the retiring Hospitaller’s place (he wasn’t home but housemates let me in). It turned out there is a couple of extra pieces that weren’t in the bags. Haven’t managed to arrange to collect them yet.

sui_001’s birthday BBQ at Cranham St was rather fun. Lent some DVDs to splodgenoodles, mainly Kurosawa’s.

Packing was a bit of a nightmare, but various lovely people helped (particularly Nigel D, bunnikins and tyggerjai. Also mr_bassman, mrsbrown and charlesnaismith who took various things off my hands, such as a futon and some leather pants. A jacket was left accidently, which I dropped over some days later, and collected my tarp I had lent to mr_bassman. It is now effectively a "shed" covering a pile of stuff I have since got off the ground at least via some wire shelves.

Got to see Dawn/Elene’s new house, which is very nice.

Had dinner with Nigel , mishymoocow, her mother & twin brother. Twins really can be seriously different. A couple of dinners with Nigel and mishymoocow since. With her experience in toddler education and extensive reading on the subject, mishymoocow is a particularly good person to talk to about upbringing and its effects.

Some lovely pics of a previously described wedding.

Cleaning the old house and throwing out stuff was quite an exercise. Fortunately, their was a hard rubbish collection happening not long after, so lots of stuff could be just left on the nature strip. Managed to lose my keys during the process.

Except they turned out to be in the lining of my leather jacket. Doh!

Also managed to find my previous set of housekeys that I had lost months ago. They had fallen in the plastic-bag bag.

wizard_foots and Dawn/Elene came over a for visit after I had settled in. wizard_foots visits periodically.

The new house is much closer to West Footscray station. A lot of goods trains go past, particularly at night. A few times, woke up about 3.45am, I suspect because I was still getting to the new set of night noises-specifically goods trains.

As a result of the move, my library is much better organised. Have the following categories: SF; occult fiction; philosophy, human nature & the mind; history; medieval history; military & intelligence history; politics & business; economics; dictionaries & related reference; feminism; gay; "meaning" [occult, self-help, religion]; sex; essays & related literature.

During the previous school holidays, had a very pleasant day with Mark L. Saw the Picasso exhibition together (fairly so-so). Ran into Rohan/Vandel in the city.

Second morning in a row awoken at 3.45am. Slept for 4 ½ hours after school then meal.

For a while, particularly given it was cold and wet a lot at night, let my walking lapse. Have managed to pick it up with increasing diligence. Even adding in a bit of a running section. My system definitely works better with regular exercise, and I feel better. If I can’t be svelte, I can at least be fit and firm.

Saw the latest Camberwell scouts Show Time with doushkasmum, sjkasabi, mr_bassman, mrsbrown, Rosie, damned_colonial, tenbears and Matthew(?). A very good-natured and fun performance. Afterwards, tenbears and I went on a bit of an SF bookshopping walk.

Went to Dawn/Elene’s birthday party, which was lots of fun. Particularly enjoyed the aspiring romantic novelist’s conversation. Liked her expression men’s eyes are secondary sexual organs. She was fun and sensible.
