Ashley Inman: Welcome to America, where women are welcome to engage in lesbian pornography for men's sexual pleasure but god forbid they get married. (via)

Kay. I'll accept that my statement was incorrect. But that's a pretty close race, and only very recently won.
It does very little for my interest in seeing LGBT people in the western world, America included, as oppressed, given that at this point, the total barrier to an American same-sex couple marrying with full benefits is that they *may* need to move to a different state. That's the *exact* concept on which the United States was founded. That the states could do things differently to each other, and those that want them done a certain way could "vote with their feet". By moving to the states that most closely matched their ideology.
I get a little sick of the people that have it the *best* complaining of deprivations. The occupy protesters with their Ipads and liberal arts degrees complaining that the jobs that are available don't pay enough for them to have a McMansion. Feminists in Australia complaining that *gasp* they get looked at. etcetera. I know that we still have work to do making things better, but at this point, could we have basic civility and recognition that we're closer to the ideal than most other places? Can we at least have *that*?
