Damn you, Jesus Phone!

Ahem. All of you people with the Jesus Phone iPhone, please tell me all about the good, the bad, and the ugly. In particular, just how outrageous are the monthly bills ( Read more... )

I do not have one, but it seems like everyone (and my father hah) has one. So far I've heard the following:
- somewhat annoying if you text a lot
- at&t makes you automatically get a iphone data plan

I don't know anyone who uses it for gps/mapping a lot. My dad used it for driving up here, and it was pretty good up until getting really close, when he couldn't quite tell where exactly where he was on the map. But yeah, he raves about how much he loves it, but he is a huge apple geek.

I'm sure I could live with the automatic data plan. :) I don't want to be "That chick who won't STFU about Apple", but seriously...it's kind of mesmerizing.

Is the data plan a one-time charge? And how on earth did you guess that having a French keyboard with correct accents would be important to me?! ;)

Well, seeing as I walk/use the bus or train everywhere, maps are an essential part of life. As is a compass, because I'm sure you know that I'm not blessed with any sense of direction. :D

And yes, I did know that already.

The data plan is most certainly not a one-time charge. Your monthly bill would be at least $80 a month. If you like to text, it will be more like $90 or more. This is a major reason I have not gotten an Internet-connected phone yet, it is simply not worth an extra $500 a year to me. If it is for you, then go for it.

I have the lowest number of "Anytime minutes" plan available, and the 1500 outgoing text message plan (incoming texts are unlimited on that plan), and my monthly bill is $85/mo, with no discounts applied. I've never come close to either the text or voice limits (My current "Rollover minutes" balance, as a customer for 11 months, is at almost 3100 minutes!), and it really is transformative to be able to communicate via almost any available modern communication technique at any time and anywhere.

I love love loooooooooooooooooooooove my phone.

Honestly, there is no way I could go back to a regular phone after this thing. It's so handy with EVERYTHING. If it doesn't come with it, there are thirty apps that you could download to fix that. The only thing that I don't particularly care for is the gps, but soon there will be a Tom-Tom application.

That's basically the consensus from everyone I've talked to; for someone who relies on maps/timetables, having them instantly would be nothing short of perfect. I'm seriously leaning towards getting one. :)

I just got it yesterday after wanting it for months. I've been talking to other users for about as long, though, so the points below are both mine and from research ( ... )

The copy & paste function is included in the 3.0 software, which all iPhones of any generation can get. The compass, however, would be 3GS only. As would be the ability to shoot video. Since you're already paying over $1000 for the phone over 2 years, I'd say you may as well get the 3GS at that point. (Also, 8 GB is really not all that much memory if you also want to use it as an iPod)
