Oh Mon! your stories always make me tear up just a bit. I would have played with you :(
I wish I could find you a Wii and buy it for them, they'd totally love it. Otherwise, I have no concept of what any children ever like. I end up giving them things like knives or calculus textbooks.

Awww. Thanks, babe. <3

I'm in the same boat; I would've given them Wusthof knives or Shakespeare.

However, I think a play tent might be an option. I remember having one from Fischer-Price and wearing that thing out when I was a kid. It doesn't have flashing or beeping, but it has limitless potential (and is SO MUCH BETTER!)

Oh damn! That would be sweet. I remember being too tall for those when I was young enough, not that I'm a giant now. I was just a very big kid D:

I still have the picture where I walked down the hallway at Grandma's and saw the tent waiting for me in the living room. It was epic. I should try and scan it in so you can be amused at five-year-old me going INSANE.

Geez, Monica, I'm crying over here. What a touching story.

I've known a lot of 5 year olds who like toys they can create with. Play-Doh and that Playfoam crap and Legos and K'Nex and Lincoln Logs and Doodle Bears and even puppets. There's some scientific crap about discovery and creation of special talents and all that at age five, but I think it's just the point where you're old enough to do these things on your own and it's totally safe and awesome.

You and your grandmother are definitely her angels.

Oh goodness, Mon. I seriously at first thought this was one of those glurges that people pass around this time a year.

I want to do something to help but it's already late in the day and I'm sure you won't get this message by the time you go out tomorrow.

This may be presumputous and it's perfectly perfectly okay if you say no, but is there any way I can get her mailing address, or even yours, so I can send something. It won't be much, I just got of the hospital and am now dealing with the bills, but I know I have SOMETHING to offer.

My email address is margaretdevore@gmail.com or you can facebook me.

BTW, no idea on presents for the twins. I don't know what kids that age enjoy.

I'll go ahead and Facebook you with my address. I saw those bills you're dealing with; I'm just glad you're alive!

I don't know shit about what five-year-olds want, but I liked reading this because the marathon I just ran was to support Scottish Rite Hospital. I hadn't really thought about where all of the money I paid to run and park and everything else had gone (except for the flashy T-shirts!), but obviously it does way more than that.

I know. That's part of the reason I was so proud of you for doing it. You ran to help pay for a surgery that might make someone able to walk. :)
