Last Friday night-Saturday morning was Relay for Life. Although the number of participants diminished since last year, we still raised a total of $25,000. And I'm so proud of our little team--this year, we won first place for spirit points!!! Spirit points are awarded for participating in their events (winning gets you more points), being extra creative, etc. Our theme was the Jetsons, though I couldn't find an outfit to modify to become one of the characters. It would've helped if I had had time to look before an hour prior to the event...I should have called Keri, who had a great idea of how to pull of the white triangles that Jane and Judy had at the neck. Oh well, it was super fun anyways. Don, Keri and I sang karaoke to "In the Jungle", which was hilarious because all of our teammates plus the Flintstones group came up and danced while we sang.
The lighting of the lumineria was cool--I lit one for my grandma, and they had a powerpoint that went through every single name during several moving songs. I should really post some of the pics online so I can link them here--if only facebook let you link to your pictures! Cuz I have them posted there.
Mike stayed until about 1:30, and I stayed until about 5:15. I would have stayed the whole time like last year, except that we had a softball game at 10:00 and I didn't want to be completely dead. Actually, the other team never showed up to that game, and so we went on to play the Benjamins at 11:00. It was a good game--we only lost by 1 point, but I seriously thought we were going to beat them. Our problem is that no one can really hit super well. All of the good teams have at least one or two power hitters. Oh well, the season was fun, and I'm really going to miss everyone next year. I think the only people still around next year are Patricia, Marcus, Matt, Mallory, Elise, myself. Patricia will be heading the team up next year, though, so it will be up to her to recruit newbies.
I officially accepted Dr. Durrance's full year program yesterday. He looked so thrilled! It made me feel a little better about staying--that at least one person was completely and utterly thrilled that I was. I'm going to start working two weeks after finals (May 14), but go home for my sisters' graduations and Angela's wedding. Sarah L. said she would like to move in with me over the summer, and I'm actually hoping that Durrance's other grad student, Catherine, will want to move in in the fall. I know nothing about her, but it seems like a good idea. Mike and Jordan also decided that they are staying in Mike's apartment next year--I'm really excited about that because Mike will still be in a 30 second walking distance, and Jordan is really cool. I just hope that I can get a roommie for the fall!
