Before I go into it I first have to mention how much Luke (3 yr old) loves Mike, it's so cute! He's not old enough to stay at VBS, but he comes with his mom to drop the girls off and he always asks if he can go watch Mike. Mike let him nail some stuff and now Luke can't get enough of him! Which is so cute because Luke is so shy, from what I can tell he doesn't easily take to people.
Last night we all took turns making a pot out of clay on a potter's wheel. All of the kids loved seeing the clay form in their hands except little Erin who did not want to do it. She's so cute! "I do not want to do that!" But what's cute is HOW she says it...Then everyone made their own pots out of the clay we made out of baking soda, flour, etc. Since the "master potter" (Mrs. Wiskamp) was busy with the kids on the potter's wheel, it was up to me to teach them the difference between a pinch pot and a coil pot. Erin had already started hers, so I started making a coil pot because that would be harder to explain without an example. So I made the "little snakes" and coiled them up to make a base and then the walls. So when some other kids came, I could say "Here's an example of the two different pots. Erin's making a pinch pot and I've got a coil pot here. You make a coil pot by making little snakes out of the clay..." So when more kids came and I said "Now we can make two different kinds of pots.." Erin piped up and told everyone that "I'm making a PINCH pot!" And it was so cool that she remembered the term! 4-yr olds really aren't as unknowledgable as we tend to think.
Since I had made a coil pot, a lot of the kids tried to make the coil pot. Some of them did really well, but others were having quite a bit of difficulty. Brett smashed his when we had only 5 minutes left, so he decided to finish up with a pinch pot instead. After washing our hands, we went to playground and carried beans in a spoon. Then we drew what we thought the temple looked like with chalk. When we went to synogogue, we learned how to write the word "Shema" in Hebrew on clay tablets.
The spontaneous skit happened during snack time this time. James told Mary Magdelene that soldiers, being led by Judas, had captured Jesus. So then ::haha:: when we went to finish up with Psalmist (Ryan), and he asked them what happened they started saying that HE was taken away! So Ryan had to explain "No, no I'm not Jesus make no mistake about that!"
After it was all done I rushed of to Wildwood to play in for Ron's team cuz some of the girls were gone. It was so fun to play softball again! I played at 2nd and got a lot of the balls. It was a really close game, we were neck and neck the whole way. But in the end we won 7 to 6. They were a really good team though...well, their shortstop was anyways. I hit this line drive that I thought would go right over her reach and land between the infield and outfield. But she jumped to the side and reached really far and snagged my hit! This happened twice. The only time I got on base was cuz the 3rd baseman misjudged my popfly and didn't catch it! Oh well it was really fun :)
