Out of the office = better health

So in the 2 weeks plus a couple days I was out of office traipsing around in Colorado for a conference and being home, I unintentionally managed to lose 9 pounds! We kept mentioning at the conference how we weren't hungry, how maybe the altitude affected our appetites...But after two people asked me if I had lost weight when I got back to LA, I calculated the difference from before and after and that's what I got. Hmm. Does it mean my church/friends feed me too well? Do I snack too much at the office? Is the coffee with hot cocoa putting on the pounds? I did skip some meals and ate pretty meagerly during the 2 weeks I was gone. But I feel better about my appearance...I had sorta been gaining a bit beforehand and now I'm back to the lower end of the range I tend to oscillate between. But now that I'm back I don't want to gain it back either. :P

Speaking of health, I posted it on facebook and twitter, but not here. For the 4th of July Freedom race in Sheboygan, I ran two miles in less than 15:43! I say less than because the stupid timing chips didn't work, so that was the amount of time that passed between the horn buzzer and me crossing the finish line. So minus a few seconds it took me to cross the beginning line. But that's way better than any time I've done before--I was stoked! It's all due to adrenaline though...I was about to die at the end, there's no way I could have continued that pace if the race were any longer. I didn't keep pace either, I definitely slowed by a little through the 2nd mile. But that's my exciting story--6/39 runners in my bracket. Who knows though? Someone could have started 10 seconds behind me and got a faster time. It really sucks about the chips.

Tonight my sisters arrive in LA! I had a good meeting with Vassilis today, he's totally cool with me being in and out next week and taking Friday off. I have most of the 1st half of the week planned out already, but the 2nd half will depend on what we're able to accomplish the 1st half, and what we're feeling like at the time. The plan for the 2nd weekend is to go camping, I think to Yosemite! They have "show-up" sites that aren't eaten away by reservations, so that is what Pastor Soon suggested we do. So they will get ocean this weekend, and mountains next weekend! And LA proper sandwiched in between. :) Oh also we are all singing a song together on Sunday for church...3 part harmony (2 girls singing melody) and Sarah on guitar, probably me on clarinet. Fun! (And I get to show them off! :P)

Last night of VBS tonight. It's been a little stress since I want to be cleaning house/organizing for my sisters' visit but instead I'm at work all day and then VBS til after 9pm. So I've been pulling late hours in order to do laundry, grocery shop, and do at least minimal cleaning. VBS has been fun though...This year I am not a teacher, but the drama person! It means I act out a story with the kids (it's an interactive drama) to teach the lesson. So I'll also ask them questions and stuff. After the 1st day, I also started helping YunJung out with her group's discussion time because they tend to be rowdy. I'm glad I get to, because that way I get to interact with them more and hear all they have to say. Some of their quotes are pretty hilarious! Like this one: After learning that Jesus had memorized much of the Old Testament and kept the Scripture close to his heart, one boy said, "Man, I bet Jesus' memory stick was 8 giga!"

family, vbs
