DN Sims

I'm behind the times: Sims 3 is out, but I just got Sims 2.

W/R/T making Death Note Sims, piles of custom content exist out there, some of the customizations better than the rest. I've scrolled through dn_sims and also looked at posts on other communities, as well as at least three different lists of suggestions, and I've poked the brains of a few friends, too. This post will keep track of what I find. At this writing I've made L and Misa, mainly because I found good packages for them; my next project is Light, who will be more of a challenge.

First of all, if checking at Mod The Sims (MTS), search on both death note and deathnote, or you won't find all of the content.

There is very little useful DN content at TheSimsResource.com (TSR), and because the search function isn't sophisticated, you'll turn up piles of unwanted information. Nonetheless, there's a bit of stuff there to make DN Sims (most of the jewelry for various characters, for example), as well as stuff to make your non-fandom Sims into DN fans, like stacks of DVDs.

Both sites require registration of some kind before you download.

Some things that are useful in general for making good-looking Sims:

- YumeDust's Eye Love pack (Photo summary above.)
- Yumedust's Eye Love pack redone as default eyes by Spikesminx (you have to pick one of each shade to install)
- Yumedust's Eye Love pack redone as contact lenses by Nimue-Lia (give Misa blue and red contacts! Allow Light's eyes to change from brown to red, or L's eyes from dark grey to blue! Etc.)
- Search on "Eye Love" at MTS to see some other options for this set.
- Chakaru's skintone pack (here's a skintone pack photo); you may also find the dark skintones useful (here's a dark skintones photo)
- Chakaru's skintones made into defaults by Dachshundsr4me
- Helaene's New Year Brows are a popular set of eyebrow replacements

Characters

L:
Lauralaima's L from Death Note at MTS is just about perfect, but I've changed his clothes, and some people might like to change his eyes and/or his skintone. You'll probably be happy with him even if you don't alter him in any way.

Clothing:
- Club Crimsyn's long-sleeved white tee (from the Basic Shirts Super Set, shown in black in the bottom right corner) has a nice texture.
- Club Crimsyn also has barefoot bootcut jeans with a matching mesh. These have a weird flag-type striping on the back pockets, but it's not too distracting in play. There's also a black pair with a plainer back.

Hair:
(hair, fill this in later)

Eyes:
Lauralaima's L comes with perfect eyes, but here are some alternatives:
- Ink or Ebony from Yumedust's Eye Love (linked above)

Eyebags:
(makeup, fill this in later)
Again, Lauralaima's eyebags are perfect. If you want to try something else, consider:
- Orcus: 5 Gothic Eyeshadows by Simgirl24 has a possibility or two

Misa:

Note: This is my Misa.

UK1967's Misa Amane by Request at MTS is decent, but I messed with her face a little, including the set of her eyes, the length of her nose, the tilt of the tip of it. I changed her hair (to the blonde version of the Garden of Shadows hair listed below) and her coloring (I made her paler and gave her Yumedust "Softly" eyes). I also gave her a dress from the Closet Child set.

Although I made a number of changes, this download is still a good place to start; it'll take longer to get her face right if you start elsewhere. There is a newer version in progress by someone else, according to the forums at MTS, but I don't know if they'll ever finish making her.

Clothes:
- The Closet Child set at Garden of Shadows has a perfect black lolita dress.

Note: This is not my Misa. This dress set, as well as the hair set on the same site that I listed below, were made by xizarx; it's her demo image for the dress! All credit to her.

- MTS has a million lolita outfits; I'd do a search on "lolita" or "gothic lolita". I'll rec a few specific outfits when I've sorted through my downloads.

Hair:
- Long Hair With Pigtails from Garden of Shadows (blonde for animanga Misa; black for an Erika Toda lookalike). This is what I'm using.
- Get the "special gift for $2.50" hair from RoseSims2 for free from The Booty: it's listed as rosespecial101, and is one of the best possible hair choices for Misa.

Eyes:
- I messed around with various blue eyes from the Yumedust Eye Love set before settling on Softly. Other people might like to try some of the different shades, or giving her brown eyes and then adding blue contacts.

Ryuk:
- Ryuk by w.w.e at MTS: I haven't tried to install him yet, but here he is if you want to try him!

Not Recommended
Some stuff is based on meshes that are hard to get, or the package doesn't work right, or there are conflicts, or etc. I couldn't get these to work; maybe you'll be luckier.

- Cherola's Kira vs L set: These look good in the screenshots, and have a lot of happy users, but a lot of their supporting material is gone. When I put them into my game, they consistently showed up bald and with the wrong clothing, in spite of the correct meshes having been installed, and they caused conflicts with various clothing and hair. The basic bodies and faces did look good, especially Light.

- Light's School Uniform by ArronArthur: I just can't get it to show up in my game.
