So, I'm in Bellingham, due in no small part to the heroic efforts of Daniel the amazing packing monster and the mindbending effects of bottled yerba mate. The drive went startlingly well, especially compared to the LAST Alcan attempt, much less hitchhiking this time, which was a good thing. My new car is lovely and amazing, and for those of you who haven't been introduced, her name is Gerta. During the trip, which took approximately 3 and one half days I, in no particular order;
Camped out in Watson Lake, and woke up in a little rosy snow pod
Saw several hundred buffalo, 43 moose, a tiny mountain lion (I think) and some sort of crazed fox creature that tried to jump in the drivers side window of my car. He also sat on the hood and looked in the windshield at me. I really wonder if he wanted to eat me.
Drank 1.5 gallons of yerba mate
Went totally out of my head on a combination of sleep deprivation, mate, and gorgeous moonlit wilderness
Pondered the insanity of truckers
Saw an interdimensional gateway, or something like it. It was pretty cool
Tried to use the power of psychokinesis to learn the banjo
Became slightly feral
Sang at the top of my lungs
Thought a lot
Drove 2500 miles
Also I talked to Caitlin and Collin! Hooray!
So here I am. I haven't had a lot of sleep yet, so I'm not super coherent, but my cell phone is working if folks want to get in contact with me. I'm holing up at Erin G's place for the night, and going over to Ali's house for New Year's games and whatnot. Also to introduce my self to my new massage table. Then up to Vancouver tomorrow to convince the Canucks to let me in their country, and then to move into my new house! I talked with one of my new roommates, who for some reason was really worried that I had disappeared in the Canadian wilderness and was not coming. Should be interesting to meet him and the rest of the crew. The northwest reminds me of Juneau, especially sleepiness, chai and sunrises in the northwest, combined with the smell of the ocean and just a hint of gasoline. It's all wrong, but makes me miss Juneau anyway. Can't wait to see everyone. Onward!
