Memorial Day Weekend

May 30, 2021 14:46

Angie and I both took Friday off to give us an extra extended weekend (4 days). At first, I was thinking of checking my email because of craziness, but I feel good that I didn't. I actually think work is really good about telling you that you don't need to and shouldn't, but I guess it's just easy to worry.

Anyway, on Friday, we did a mini-vacation activity, but local. During the roadtrips, it often felt like we'd bring Alfie to parks then get food with him. We don't typically bring him to restaurants around home, but figured we'd try since lots of places have outdoor seating now. So we went to a park which is around a lake. There weren't too many people around, which was good. We walked around a few times and Alfie half-heartedly chased some geese/ducks. He's much more tentative about it, but maybe it's because they have numbers and they're much larger than the normal critters that he'll chase. Afterwards, we went to a tavern/bar which advertised outdoor seating and being dog friendly. Angie was also craving tatter tots after watching Venom (which was terrible in so many ways). We actually got there slightly before the place opened (noon) but apparently it was such a hot place that there were plenty of people in the lot waiting AND going to the door before it officially opened. Anyway, the food was normal greasy bar food, which was what we wanted. Alfie got to eat with us so it was pretty nice and relaxing. We probably should do this more, especially with the weather turning and the new boom of outdoor seating.

Angie has been talking about adding some more cabinets/drawers/etc under our bedroom windows. So we researched various stuff at IKEA, then went yesterday. We went with a modular set of cabinets/drawers/etc and pretty much designed how we wanted it to look. I'm a big fan of IKEA's modular furniture since it's fun to design your own stuff which fits your home. There were a few pieces of it that weren't in stock, but fortunately, we didn't measure our room properly so it was good! Anyway, after returning, we spent about 6 or 7 hours putting stuff together until we realized that fatigue was hindering us (both physical and mental). Angie and I made the same mistake on pieces and we assembled a drawer basically backwards. So we figured it was time to stop and fix it tomorrow (today). Today, we fixed it and it wasn't pretty easy when you have a fresh brain =P

before/after plus random fanciness

Our previous set up, which was fine (https://photos.app.goo.gl/twBUf9NX8Mtyyr846)

Our new set up with lots of pet thoughts incorporated! Under the aloe is an open square so Jabba can look out the window. Various open cubes are for Jabba/Morgan and we plan to add more cushions to the top so kids (and us) can sit and look out the window.

And while reorganizing, I figure I'll try to be fancy with my ties! I saw it in some drama and learned how to roll my ties from a Marie Kondo video. (https://photos.app.goo.gl/3mbHej3i364wUABq6)

I sometimes think that we should buy more/better furniture for our cats, but assembling and planning this made me realize how much of our actual furniture is for them or at least have them in mind!

In other news, I started playing I am Setsuna (Switch), which is going quite well. It's basically a fake and lesser Chrono Trigger, but Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games of all time so it's still pretty enjoyable so far. I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason, I feel like the whole game is sad, but I think that makes it different and I like sad things, I guess. So I'm pretty happy that I started it since I've been feeling like my hobbies have been filled with "trying to finish things" versus actually enjoying them.
