To celebrate Halloween, Angie and I carved pumpkins on Friday night. The theme of this year was Alien, where we wanted to make a pumpkin explode from another pumpkin similar to the iconic scene from Alien. So we purchased pumpkins of the general shape that we wanted and some weird little white vegetable that could act as the baby alien.
Angie took the task of making the primary display of the pumpkin and the alien popping out while I used another pumpkin to make an alien pod. For the pod, I mainly just kept cutting and rounding an opening at the top. I pretty much kept making it larger and more defined while Angie worked on the guy and alien.
Angie started by cutting a hole in the back of the pumpkin so she could break the abdomen area outwards for a good explosion look. But the skin of the pumpkin was incredibly thick and hard so her dream of just smashing it thought (even scored) turned very difficult. The alien vegetable also had a really weird shape. It was like a pear-like shape with a really long and looping neck with weird flaps on the base. Since the base had the flaps, the hole in the back of the pumpkin kept getting larger until Angie just cut the neck and did something to prop it up. She then simply drew a face on the main pumpkin and added various pulp for guts. A little KY-jelly was added for general sliminess.
Overall, the pumpkins came out a little more penile than ideally, but they weren't bad.

Zoomed out a bit
Plus my pod. As you can see from this photo, the placement of the alien is a bit penile.
But the next morning, we added some fake blood which would hopefully drive the proper image to people's minds:

Eventually, when it got dark, I light up my alien pod. I think that turned out very well so my contribution wasn't totally auxiliary:

And for costumes this year, neither of us did anything super awesome. I really didn't know what I wanted to do, so I went with reusing a costume from several years ago. I was a "cartoon villain", probably from something like Dudley Do Right or Bullwinkle or some super old cartoon. Angie decided to be Britney Spear from "Hit Me Baby One More Time" (should there be a comma or two in there?).

Pop singer and cartoon villain, who's more evil?
Cute wife =)
Weird face touching and tons of light. I didn't alter the contrast or anything!
So we gave out candy and played AGOT LCG (A Game of Thrones Living Card Game, which is funnily enough dead now) for most of Halloween. We also took a break around 4 to walk the kids. It was a bit cold, although I guess my cape helped. But it was kind of nice walking around and seeing other people and decorations. Some people really go all out, which is probably why Halloween is starting to rival Christmas for decorations.
But all in all, it was a pretty nice Halloween.
