Cleansing time again! Healthy eating, September 7-21

Sep 03, 2010 13:40

As we do every harvest season, my wife and I (and anyone else we can convince) will cleanse out our systems by eating uncompromisingly healthfully 24×7 for two weeks, give-or-take.

Our diet pretty much becomes vegetables, tofu, fish and whole grains, with an absolute ban on refined sugars, alcohol, caffeine (except green tea), dairy products, wheat ( Read more... )

Hmmm. We should figure out when you're going to come over for lunch. Although I guess your diet is pretty fulfillable at Google.

I am here next week and also the week after. Let's do next week, this week is a little crazy with commitments and the movers on Thursday.

Would next Monday work?

Hmm, the Cleveland branch of Bostonians is considering a modified version. The question is, are eggs banned in your cleanse?

Our version would be no mind-altering substances (caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar) and veggie/pescan but still dairy and wheat. We're not ready for the full version!

So did you come up with something? Eggs are contraindicated in my cleanse implementation, but they are kind of the perfect protein.

Sadly we're slightly delayed due to Yom Kippur. I said "what a great time to cleanse! We won't be eating anyway!" A said, "but we'll miss the traditional pre-Yom Kippur gorging!" That said, we'll start our post-fast cleansing on Sunday.

For us, I think we're going to let eggs be okay. Otherwise breakfast will be tres difficile!

I'm in. I might even do the yucky herbs this time. Will you be doing a kick-off potluck again?

Aha, obviously no kick-off potluck, but perhaps there should be a dinner in the last week. Did you sign on with the herbs?

I'll probably do it, but starting on the 8th through the 22nd.
cee's not interested in doing it this round, so it'll be more of an effort to do the diet on my own.

Pretty well! I had just returned from Burning Man, where my diet and metabolism and water intake are historically abnormal. I'm at the 1 week mark today, expect to finish on the solstice.

I am much happier with my morning oatmeal, since I started presoaking it overnight in half the water, with a little kefir or yogurt added - the lactic bacteria help break down the less digestible parts, and my body seems to find it more satisfying in that I don't crave more food for some time afterwards.

How's it going over there?
