So, last night I got to go on my first Cataclysm raid(s). My guildmates drafted me in as a 10th man, even though my gear was not good enough and I had only done lolraids from the previous expansions before this so I was very, very nervous about going at all. We blew through the first two encounters pretty quickly, since most of my guild had done them several times before.
Then we got to
Halfus, a very big, very ugly douchebag. Basically, he has five little dragon friends and you get three of the five to play with -- it's a different three each week, so it's always a mystery what you're going to get. Apparently we got a really rotten group, and one of my guildies whispered to me that they had never brought him down with this combination.
We died. A LOT. Like, many, many times. I was really, really upset because I kept thinking "OH GOD, I AM SO CRAP I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH YET waugh" and getting extremely frustrated. :(
Finally we got him down to about 10-15% (I wasn't paying attention) of his 32,460,000 hit points. Yes, 32,460,000. Everything seemed okay and then the healers ran out of mana and everybody died.
Except one warlock and me. And then the warlock died. And it was just me and the douchbag.
I can't even really describe what that feeling was like, I just SO ANGRY by that point I knew that I wanted his fucking head on a stick AND I WAS GOING TO FUCKING GET IT. The only comparable experience I have had is my recent forays into MINI racing -- it was a sort of tunnel vision, very quiet and controlled. I just hit every fucking button I could hit as quickly as I could hit them. It was like a beserker seeing red and just going in no holds barred with all guns blazing.
And he died. :D
Anyone (hi ex-boyfriend!!) who says video games are a waste of time can kiss my ass. That was the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever gotten outside of anything other than, as stated, high speed car races or possibly the one time I went skiing. It has made the long hours where I was bored and frustrated at trying to level my wee tankadin SO FUCKING WORTH IT.
Seriously, it was awesome. :D
