Lost Connections

I know there are a LOT of differing opinions about Facebook. Some people can not go without updating on nearly an hourly basis. Others loath it to know end. I happen to be one of those who have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it when it is working, I hate it when they fuck change it up, I love it when I can check in on what friends around the world are doing, I hate it when after I have "fixed" my privacy settings they go and do some sort of upgrade that negates all my changes...

I love it when someone I have not thought of in years finds me, and it is actually someone I would want to do so.

Tonight, Mark, a guy I knew all the way through Jr High and High School asked me to add him as a friend. This was a guy who was held up by my mother for years as being, much like Mary Poppins, practically perfect. He was a straight A student, musically gifted (first chair all-state trumpet), polite - all in all a "good Christian boy" as my grandmother would say. Mark was a year ahead of me in school and I totally lost track of him after graduation and he ran off to the University of North Carolina to study communications.

Anyway, things being as they are, I decided I should check out his profile first. Well, I noticed right off the bat that nearly every other gay or lesbian person I went to HS with was listed as a friend and that his employer is the MCC in Tallahassee, FL. My jaw could have been scooped off the floor it  dropped so much.

Well, not really - Mark was always WAY too neat for a HS boy...

So we have messaged back and forth a couple of times and will continue to do so. Yep, loving Facebook for the time being.
