Race Report: 2009 Hungry Duck Half Marathon

Jul 05, 2009 21:22

Here we are, the middle run in three weeks of hard racing. This is the harder of the three races, because the recovery for this race might overlap with the 5K next weekend. I was really wishy washy about either this race, or a 5/10K in Whitmore Lake. But this half was so early in the morning(7am), and the weather forecast was excellent that I ( Read more... )

Wow, excellent job! Look at you...back-to-back AG placements...woot! Brighton, 'eh...? Did Q come out to see you race?

Good luck next weekend! Perhaps you will recover faster than you think. I was really surprised by how much faster I bounced-back from Bayshore, vs. Milwaukee last Fall. A HM shouldn't knock you down for long, I wouldn't think.

Nah, I talked to him briefly about it, but that was about it.

Historically, I've been ready to race again about 8-9 days after a half in the past. Since I'm in better shape than I used to be, I think it'll be shorter recovery too, provided I don't try to do too much speed this week.

Great effort! It's amazing the psychology it takes to race well, eh?

Isn't Brooksie a difficult place to PR? I've heard it's a pretty tough course...

Yeah, it's no Dexter-Ann Arbor, for sure. I ran the inaugural course last year. The early part of the course is all downhill, and the miles 9-12 has three impressive inclines before a net downhill to the finish. I think a PR is easily doable, given some planning and sticking to it during the race, and planning a fitness peak around the race to ensure maximum effort (like a shorter marathon taper, or something).
